The WORKSHOP : Washington DC

Just over a week ago, I had the honor of meeting 20 amazing photographers from the Washington D.C. area…and together we talked about ways to make our businesses what we want. Okay, so I did most of the talking, but that's because I taught theWORKSHOP. Washington was the second stop on our workshop adventure and I can't explain how wonderful the day unfolded.

One of things that stuck out in this particular group was their outright commitment to helping each other. Far before theWORKSHOP started, they participated in their personalized Facebook group and conversed like old friends. By the time the mixer arrived (the night before the workshop), they were hugging and laughing like summer camp buddies.

theWORKSHOP was hosted at The Loft at 600 F, one of the cutest event spaces in Washington D.C….loved everything about it! I especially loved the relaxing atmosphere as it allowed everyone to chill before the class and during breaks…

It was a hot and very bright day in Washington D.C. so it was a great opportunity to showcase how I shoot in midday light, as well as find natural reflectors to leverage in harsh lighting conditions. Many thanks to the amazing styling team for making our bride and groom look amazing:
Wedding Dress: Ellie's Bridal Boutique
Floral Decor: Highway to Hill
Makeup: Kristine Marie Artistry
Hair: Up Dos for I Dos

Shooting in Downtown D.C. might have presented various shooting challenges (location, light, limited space), but I worked through how I'd approach this on a wedding day and the tips I'd employ…

Anna and Brian were the sweetest couple to work with and I couldn't have been happier…so in love and FUN to be around!

I simply tell you that I walked away learning not only about this business, but myself, and who I want to be in this field. I walked into a room of strangers and let them see the real me, and I think I left knowing exactly who that was. As Jasmine put it, “they might love it, or hate it, but make them feel something!”Ashton Kelley

One of my favorite things is watching photographers blossom behind their cameras. I love hearing them talk to the bride and groom…and form their photographic voices…

Anna, you are so beautiful. I can't even deal.

What I learned from Jasmine that day was that although I have had a great year and am comfortable with my booking- it can ALWAYS get better. I can ALWAYS improve.Amanda Hedgepeth

Any time peonies are mixed into a bouquet, I'm smitten…

Jasmine taught us how to create a brand that fits who WE are, she showed us the technique of moving into a pose to create emotion and uniqueness, and so much more. I learned so much and I cannot wait to utilize it in my photography.Olivia Rae

Shooting in metropolitan areas produces beautiful reflected light and it was easy shooting when working with a couple who melts in each other's arms…

It was so helpful watching Jasmine as she worked with Brian and Ana – she gave us her best tips for catching the most natural, but beautiful looks and poses…. It was so great! Jasmine challenged us to only post the images that we felt best captured who we are as photographers.Jonalee Earles

In spite of our paparazzi effects, this couple shined in their love…

And this? This is–by far–the best photo of the day. Together we bonded, voiced our dreams/weaknesses/fears/hopes, and committed to pushing each other toward the direction of our professional aspirations. I wish nothing but the best for these amazing photographers and I look forward to cheering the loudest from the sidelines.

If you'd like to join us for a future workshop, feel free to sign up for the NEWSLETTER since it's announced there first.

A *BIG* and special thank you to Stephanie of Angelina Photography for being my D.C. Workshop associate…she helped planned a perfect day and I can't say how much I appreciate her. She's my former bride, current friend, and loveliest supporter.
