So You Want to Photograph a Destination Wedding?

Dear Jasmine,
I have a huge dream. It's just crazy weird. And I've been afraid to visualize it (you talked about it in Exposed Magazine). So I'm going to say it out loud for the first time. Here. I want to shoot a wedding in Bali. I do. I really really really do. I love Bali and I want to go back with every fibre of my being. I'm going to start visualizing. Dreaming. Hoping. I want to be back in Asia. So. Badly.
Sincerely,
The Visualizer

Dear Visualizer
Let's talk about dreams:  I'm a HUUUUGE proponent of saying things out loud, saying things to others to keep you accountable.  So, Bali?  You're going.  No, really, it's not a matter of if, but when.  So you can just sit back and hope…or promise yourself to do things to bring it to reality.

So what does the idea of ‘bringing it to reality' mean? Basically, you need to start doing things that will put you closer to what you're visualizing. The more you want it, the more you'll have to do. Here are a few things to get started…
1.Read more about wedding customs in Bali (become an expert on this topic).
2.Start researching local wedding photographers who are doing amazing things in Bali (see where they're shooting, what's locally inspiring, study their approach, etc.).
3.Find the leading coordinators in Bali and follow them on social media (become well versed in local activities and events…perhaps one day they'll mention a cool opportunity you might be able to participate in or maybe you can help in a new way).
4.Research articles about Bali weddings, specifically Bali destination weddings (there's a higher likelihood of shooting a wedding for a couple flying into Bali, as opposed to shooting a wedding for a local bride and groom).

All this to say, get busy.  It's one thing to visualize your goal, but I challenge you to take strides toward it.  That's when you'll bring it to life.
Dream On,
