T
hey share a quiet kind of love. The type of love that others can see and feel, but is never put on display like a relic in a museum. Rodhelen and David complete each others' sentences and quietly laugh at inside jokes...and occasionally use pet names in public. Their friends and family laud their devotion, care, and attention to others, all things that manage to find their way back to each other.

Last Monday, on a glorious Labor Day, Rodhelen and David promised their lives to each other. The wedding overlooked a stunning day in Newport Beach and the sun kissed the couple as they floated down the aisle. It was a perfect day for two people who deserved nothing else.

Rodhelen and David, thank you for being so sweet, kind, and thoughtful. It was a joy to document your wedding day and I know your lives are destined for only great(er) things...and merely because you deserve every last bit of it. Enjoy your time in Italy...and, Rodhelen, please buy a pair of heels we'd both swoon over! Much Love and Appreciation... j*

The day started at the bridal suite at Pelican Hill Resort...and nothing's better than beginning with a pair of Christian Dior heels and Oscar De La Renta wedding dress...

Many thanks to Nisie of Enchanted Florist for the stunning bouquet...

Rodhelen and David opted to see each other before the ceremony and I couldn't have been happier for this amazing moment between the two of them...

Because they saw each other before the wedding, we had plenty of time to plan for pictures and roam every inch of Pelican Hill Resort...

The official Mr. and Mrs...with a lovely ceremony by Reverend Clint Hufft

Oh, Rodhelen...you are GORGE! Thanks to Joyce Luck for hair and makeup!

Many, many thanks to Alicia Townsend of Details, Details for planning a lovely day and ensuring we stayed right on track with the timeline...LOVE her!

The day was filled with many great moments...like the First Dance...

...and lovely speeches...

...and private moments... (with lovely music provided by Peter Papadopolous and video light provided by Elysium Productions)

It was an absolutely stunning night for a wedding and the views from Pelican Hill was the cherry on the wedding cake!

N
umber one. If there was a common theme in Shannon's life, it's number one. To be the best sister, daughter, friend and regardless of how she ensured it happened, it always did. She's the type of person to plan family dinners, orchestrate holiday events, organize Lakers-themed parties, or send a personalized card. And these characteristics have less to do with being better than, but to gather like-minded people around her and share gravity of her love.

When Bill came into Shannon's life, he became the a participant in the gale force energy that Shannon possesses. They went to NBA games together, dressed for themed parties together, and patiently listened as details were organized for a litany of events. The way Bill looks at Shannon across a crowded room gives onlookers an idea of why he loves her so much: while she's making others feel their best, he knows he's become her number one.

Shannon and Bill...who's ready to plan another wedding?! Com'on friends...we can talk about the plans for DAYS!!! I'm sure you're enjoying the sunny beaches of Maui, but patiently waiting a sneak peek of your wedding photos too...so here they are! I hope they embody all the work your poured into your special day and reflect the love your have for each other and those around you. It was an honor to join you on your first day as husband and wife. Much Love and Appreciation... j*

The wedding day began at Shannon's parents' country club, Virginia Country Club in Long Beach wear she donned a perfect Nicole Miller wedding dress...

Shannon and her design consultant, Melanie Furata, worked on creating personalized elements to the wedding day and every corner was filled with pops of color...loved it! Many thanks to Primary Petals for this fuchsia, orange, and teal bouquet...

The ever fab ladies of Fiore Beauty were on hand to ensure Shannon's hair and makeup were simply beautiful...

Shannon and Bill opted to see each other before the ceremony for a First Look, which was a perfect fit for for their day and calming the bride's nerves before walking down the aisle...

The amazing crew at Virginia Country Club carted us on golf carts wherever we wanted to go and I'm incredibly thankful we discovered with lovely patch of light along the golf course...

Oh, Shannon, really?!?

Just before the ceremony, we were able to utilize the amazing light of such a beautiful wedding day...

The amazing light continued as JD captured this photo leading into the wedding...

Every time I see a mantilla veil, I want to wear one. Around the house...like, when I wash dishes or paint my nails. Love it.

Paper goods add that perfect splash of detail goodness, so I was delighted to see Posh Paperie on hand for the reception as well...

I loved the chevron table runner mixed with the organic vibe of the centerpieces...

The First Dance...with special lighting provided by the ever amazing videographers, Elysium Productions...

I must give a special shout out to The Young Guns...they were amazing and provided such a fun evening!

Speaking of a fun evening, the night was made perfect with Cool Haus ensuring ice cream sandwiches were handmade and served right...

Garden Engagement : Elise + Chris

T
heir chance meeting was due in large part to a slice of pizza. A slice of free pizza, but Elise and Chris know the events surrounding that bribe may also have been enticing. Chris and his USC fraternity brothers hosted a mid-afternoon party at their frat house and invited Elise's sorority for a day in the sun and on the slip-n-slide.

Studying in her Delta Delta Delta sorority house, Elise looked up from her books at the clock and realized she could probably sneak over for a slice of pizza and get back to studying without being detected. She no doubt enjoyed the extracurricular activities of Greek life, but Elise simply wanted to focus on school at the moment. She slipped into a red bikini top and shorts, and made her way to Sigma Phi Epsilon.

It was there she met Chris, a charming, vivacious, humorous guy who easily persuaded her to spend the afternoon studying the art of Fun. Seven years later, they've traveled the world, created memories, and are set of embarking on their most exciting adventure yet: marriage. I'm extraordinarily excited to document their wedding at Pelican Hill Resort later this fall and I know great things are in store based on our time together last week!

One of the reasons I was particularly excited for Elise and Chris' engagement session was because of the personal attention they paid to choosing the right location. Wanting something unique, Elise suggested meeting at her grandparents' house in Orange County, surrounded by 10 acres of gardens, foliage, and sun-dripped backgrounds. It was the perfect location for engagement photos!

I'm very thankful for Jeannie Savage of Details, Details sending such amazing clients my way...from the moment we met, it felt like a perfect fit! Just look at how much these two adore each other...

Elise, you are something FIERCE...love it!

Elise spent her childhood roaming the gardens of her grandparents' home and their gardeners use their cherry-picker truck for most the harvesting, a detail Chris always seemed impressed with! ;)

There's this thing I think to myself sometimes behind the lens. Hairology. You know, the study of just how awesome someone's hair can be? As I photographed Elise, it took everything in me not to reach out and touch it. She's like a real life Pantene ProV commercial...

...SEE WHAT I MEAN?!

Chris told me at the beginning of the engagement session that the garden attracted the most amazing sunset light and he hoped I'd capture a bit of it...Chris, I hope I didn't let you down! ;)

Terranea Wedding : Sonya + Eric

S
he complimented her bridesmaids as she rushed through the casita. That dress looks great on you...oooh, I love your hair...you look stunning. So often the day was made about others that her friends took the time to stop Sonya and remind her that the day was about her. And Eric. About them together, but it took getting used to because she's only ever been about everyone else. Selfless, that's how she's described by those who know her best and love her most.

Eric is equally as loved and deeply respected. Not only playing for powerhouse NFL teams, Eric served as captain for most of them, drawing the affection and loyalty of his teammates. He's lauded for his warm embrace anyone who crosses his path, be in on the field or one of his favorite beach hangouts.

Last Saturday, Selflessness and Warmth married at Terranea Resort...Sonya and Eric vowed their lives to each other in front of their friends and family, creating a day just as much about their guests as it was about them...and they wouldn't have wanted it any differently.

Sonya and Eric, words can't express how thankful I am to be a part of your love story. It was honor getting to know you and documenting your wedding day. Your friends and family are amazing and I have no doubt you're destined for abundant success with them at your sides. Much Love and Appreciation... j*

The day started brilliantly at Terranea Resort...I was thankful to have Messex Industries letterpress map to personalize the ring shot...

The day was gorgeous and every corner was a backdrop for photos...especially Sonya's Vera Wang wedding dress...

...and a pair of fabulous Jimmy Choo's!

Sonya and Eric opted to see each other before the wedding ceremony for a private moment together...and seeing his stunning bride brought tears to Eric's eyes...

Many thanks to JD for capturing moments and details that personalize a wedding...

Sonya is beautiful on the inside and out...and many thanks to Contour Foussa for makeup and Sarah Daly for hair...

Just after the First Look, the bridal party headed to the wedding ceremony...obviously looking their best...

The day was slightly overcast, but the Terranea Resort always offers a gorgeous background...

The most evident thing about their love is how they make each other happy...they're always making the other laugh...

...see what I mean?!?

Officially official...

While guests enjoyed cocktail hour...

...Eric and Sonya snuck away for a few more photos along the gorgeous coast at Terranea...

Eric joked that Sonya was getting all the photo attention, but little did he realize JD had his back with photos like this one...

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention just how amazing Erin + Angela of Sterling Social were in making this wedding truly perfect....their hard work, dedication, and professionalism made the day lovely and I was incredibly lucky to be alongside such a great team! Annnnnd if that wasn't enough, they suggested sparkly and sequence tablecloths from La Tavola for the reception...love them!

Like always, working with the ever fab R. Jack Balthazar for florals and design makes my heart happy...they're artists and incredible at what they do!

The First Dance from JD's perspective...

...from my perspective...

I'll end on this note because the party was epic, especially with DJ Tendaji Lathan mixing the night away...

Viceroy Santa Monica Engagement : Sonya+Eric
06.05.12
- Engagements - Slideshows

I
t happened on a Sunday Fun Day, a day of the week filled with good times, laughter, and, well, fun. Sonya's friend invited her hang out on a Sunday afternoon along the beach and while there, Sonya met Eric. He was vivacious and funny and somehow snagged Sonya's phone and called his own...just like that he had her number programmed on his phone. To ensure Eric had her often waning attention throughout the evening, he grabbed a pen and scribbled on Sonya's arm, leaving a mess of marks on her forearm.

Five days later, and after a good scrubbing of Eric's pen marks, Sonya drove to San Clemente to meet friends at a beach house. Famished, she raided the pantry, plopped on the sofa next to the guys, threw her feet on the coffee table, and poured a bag of barbeque chips into her mouth. It was then--watching Sonya shovel crispy snack after crispy snack into her mouth--that Eric fell. Hard. He loved her independence and disregard to what others thought and was determined to make her fall in love with him.

For the next few weeks, Eric texted Sonya...daily. Small quips, salutations, and wishes for sweet dreams. Overtime Sonya looked forward to hearing from Eric and missed his communication if he forgot his daily text. She agreed to go to dinner with Eric and fell. Hard. She loved his humor, personality, and heart and was determined to spend the rest of her life with him.

I am incredibly excited to work with Eric and Sonya later this month for their wedding. We began their engagement session at the Viceroy Santa Monica and spent time doing what they do best...laughing, joking, and loving.

Ooooh, Sonya, you're such a beaut...really.

The light at the Viceroy Santa Monica was just spectacular for the engagement photos...

I love the way Sonya and Eric love. They're completely themselves around each other and can make each other crumble into a fit of laughter in a matter of seconds. Many thanks to Erin of Sterling Social for connecting us and ensuring we were a good fit...clearly, they think I'm HILARIOUS. ;)

We walked down to the beach in Santa Monica and enjoyed the amazing weather and beautiful sunset...

Happy Tuesday!
