Because You Shine

Mom, just wanted to write a quick note to say HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY. I'm boarding the first flight from Miami to Los Angeles this morning to ensure we have the chance to celebrate together. There will be a barbecue, gift giving, but–most of all–there will be love. Lots of it. And these are the memories I plan to chisel on my heart.

These past few weeks have been rough, catching all by surprise. For months you said not to worry, but two weeks ago you admitted you weren't feeling well. The pain in your head, the dizziness…it's all coming back to you. The last thing you wanted to do was make an appointment to see your oncologist, but we decided it's for the best. In faith we pray your brain cancer stays at bay and Remission is a badge you can wear, well, forever.

We have no doubt that the next few weeks will unfurl tests and meetings with specialists, but your family will be right behind you every step of the way. The silver lining in this situation is that it's served as a wakeup call…again. A blaring horn reminding us to love you, fiercely. To make time together. To fight for moments we have now, in the present.

Thank you for being a beacon of love, transparency, and determination. I love you.
