Whoa. I got bags and bags of letters begging to see another picture of my ever amazing dog, Polo, since JD and I have returned from Australia and New Zealand. Apparently, you missed him JUST AS MUCH AS ME. Clearly. Each bag of correspondence weighed 89 pounds and I've bench pressed each bag a few times to work on my biceps. Then I had JD sit on the bag and I bench pressed him too. Because I got it like that.

And, really, nobody requested to see Polo on my blog...I just figured he was due a cameo on this fine Sunday morning.

On the Road in March

O
ne thing I'm particularly excited for 2010 is the amazing opportunity to connect and share with other photographers. Nothing is better than learning from many people at once and this March is going to be epic. EPIC. I said it louder in case my dad didn't hear me the first time. In March I will be meeting and connecting with many new photographers and I'm incredibly excited to meet many of you!!

For my Canadian friends, I'll be speaking in British Columbia for the ImageQuest 2010 Photography Convention on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. I'd lovelovelove to meet my Canadian friends there and I have no doubt the conference will be an awesome culmination of great ideas, tips, and knowledge! For more information CLICK HERE to visit the site and find registration information.

Also in March I'm headed to Phoenix, Arizona for the PROPhotogs Convention and I'll be speaking on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Cher Salo and her team take a lot of time and energy planning these conventions and I have no doubt we'll have a blast!

Lastly, I'll be speaking at WPPI, but there's been a change in the schedule. My new and official presentation time is Monday, March 8 @ 6:30pm. Holllllla! I'm terribly excited and nervous for this opportunity and though I suspect I'll be hiding in a bathroom stall begging for divine deliverance just minutes before I have to speak, I'm sure we're gonna have fun! As most of you know, WPPI is the biggest photography convention/conference/tradeshow in the world and it's definitely a great place to be to grow and learn.

In light of this, WPPI is having a CONTEST! Woohoo! If you'd like to be hooked up with FREE VIP Registration, a FREE room at the MGM during WPPI, and national exposure for you via Rangefinder, WPPIOnline, and Aftercapture, this is for YOU!!! All you have to do is create a two-minute video uploaded to YouTube explaining what you love most about WPPI. That's it! For more information regard the video contest, Click HERE for more information!

By the way, if you win, I let you buy me a Pellegrino and we can toast to your awesomeness!

Kitchen Envy
01.21.10
- Personal

I
'm inspired to cook when I watch the Food Network. The thing that drives me wild are all the fancy pots, the tiny ramequins filled with spices, and glass measuring cups. Augh. All the cuteness just kills me. So much so, I want to get up off the couch and cook. Well, sorta.

You see, when JD and I first got married, we were broke and since we had a really small wedding, I never had the luxury of a wedding registry. When we moved into our new place as husband and wife, I simply brought along the cookware I owned while I was in law school. Which basically meant one day I cleared out the cooking section of Pic-N-Save, complete with mismatched pans and garlic shaped dish towels. I wish I was joking.

It wasn't until last month when our friends stayed a few days with us that I realized our kitchen goods were ridiculous. Because my forks? THEY BEND.

In December I made the decision to buy two nice kitchen things a month until we refurbished our supplies. Or I lose the garlic shaped towels. JD was thrilled with this idea and seeing his excitement proved what I wanted to buy him for Christmas: pots. Yes, Internet, I bought my husband pots and pans for Christmas. And before you're eyes bulge from all my extravagant gift-giving abilities, I bought him knives too. Can you handle all my wildness?!

I'm slowly working my way toward kitchen envy. To be more specific, I hope one day Giada De Laurentiis stops by my house and when she sees my kitchen she'll think to herself, Wow, I'm so jealous of Jasmine's pans... And then I'll tell her (because I can read her thoughts) if she likes the pans, just wait until she sees my garlic shaped dish towels!

As a reminder, I'll be on the The B School Study Hall today for a LIVE interview answering your questions at 4pm PST. I'll be chatting about everything under the sun, so if you have anything you'd like to ask, bring it on! To see the live stream, CLICK HERE to party on the web with us! :)

The Workshop : Australia

I
'm sitting at my desk overwhelmed with what could be sheer warmth and passion for photography. For sharing. For teaching. I am, beyond all doubt, living my dream. And for this, I thank you. For those of you who visit my corner of cyberspace, I'm honored and I appreciate who you are. And, especially, for those photographers I've been blessed to meet at The Workshop, thanks for molding my heart into a new shape. I owe you.

I'm excited to post a few pictures from the first Sydney, Australia workshop. As I mentioned before, being in the Land Down Unda was a dream come true, and meeting so many amazing photographers was a total bonus. With many thanks to Cathy Crawley for her help planning The Workshop in Sydney, the day was a complete success. I walked away feeling like, quite possibly, the luckiest girl on the face.of.the.planet.

I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the following vendors for making the day possible...
Venue: Cruise Bar (Katie, Georgie, and Belinda...you're my girls and I can't wait to hang out again soon!!!)
Wedding Dresses: Catherine Colubriale (Catherine...you're amazing...and kind...and a true artist...thank you from the bottom of my heart!)
Models: Evan+Lacey (I can't thank you enough from flying in from Queenstown...I adore you both to bits and pieces!) and Kristie (who couldn't be a better muse...love her!)
Florals: Daisy Chain Florist in Castlehill (Aileen...you're a total gem...I can't thank you enough!)
Hair+Makeup: Ellie Vierboom of Ella Bella (thank you for working so fast and gracefully under pressure...so awesome!)

Could you just imagine my delight when I realized THIS was our view from the conference room at the Cruise Bar?!

When we started the shoot, we began shooting Evan+Lacey and I realized they're just so much fun in front of the camera!

Kristie was a modern bride and totally fabulous in front of the camera...

I adored the ribbon in Lacey's hair and she reminded me of a romantic Robin Hood bride! :)

Work it, Lacey! ;)

Kristie can make even a delivery entrance look amazing...

Don't ask me why, but these are my favorite photos from the shoot. Maybe it's the bow on her wedding dress, or the barely visible Sydney Bridge, or Kristie's smile...or a mix of all three things. Or maybe I just feel these are really my style...

Okay, I lied. THIS is my favorite photo from the day. The group shot always is! The energy and passion of this group was palpable and I learned so much from them.
To my new friends, thank you for making a dream come true. Not only were we able to photograph brides in Sydney, you inspired me. I can't wait to see what the future holds for all of you and I sincerely hope you make a change in the wedding photography world in Australia. You're destined for great things...I just know it! Much Love and Appreciation...j*

Making Things Happen Workshop : Lara Casey

- Personal - Photography

I
know I've stated it before, but I'm a firm believer in learning from others. Learning in a variation of forms, but when I first started my business, it came in the form of workshops. I went to as many workshops as I could afford and they accelerated my growth in so many ways. I've always been a proponent and will remain well into the future.

When I heard Lara Casey was hosting a workshop in Los Angeles, I immediately signed up. I didn't even know what the workshop entailed, but I knew Lara...and her flair, and her determination, and her business saavy. So I signed up. I've watched Lara --Editor of Southern Weddings Magazine, branding expert, photographer rep, and many other things--from a distance and admired her growth, so I wanted to soak up everything I could. Better yet, she announced that Jose Villa and Jeff Holt would join as her guests, so it was an easy decision.

Jose, like usual, was affable, kind, and giving....I love him!

I can't say enough good things about this workshop. I decided to make 2010 a year of growth for me. Not as a photographer (although I remain to work on this), but, more, as a person. Lara Casey's workshop really fine tunes your goals, how you want to grow, and personal development. I walked away inspired, challenged, and hungry to be a better person. For this, I'm incredibly thankful.
