Florence + The Opinion of Others

The Internet is a crazy thing. At the risk of sounding like Tyra Banks, it's my frienemy. Like, my best friend and my arch enemy. She's the girl who'll ask to borrow my jeans when only the day before she said they made me look fat. Yes, THAT girl. Someone I want to simultaneously hug and strangle.

Getting away couldn't have come at a better time and I'm enjoying my time away from life at home and experiencing la dolce vita in Florence. This morning JD and I went running, then got ready for the day, but I took longer than expected. I blame the European electrical outlets. Entirely. When we finally made it out of the hotel, JD and I were beyond hungry. Then we got lost trying to find a trendy mozzerella bar. Which wasn't the funnest moment considering I was ready to gobble my own knuckles. Then it started to rain. My brows were in permafurrow. Which isn't a good look.

We tucked into a quaint cafe where no one spoke english, but the Italian grandma behind the bar said she'd take care of us. Or at least that's what my broken Italian and her sign language communicated. Soup, sandwiches, and one lasagna later, I almost kissed her. At the end she wobbled over with cappuccinos and I kissed all five fingertips and said, Molto bono! She smiled.

I'm happy to be away right now. Tucked in a cafe away from the rain, and the opinions of others.

Mortadella and cheese…and grandma's homemade vegetable soup…

Botticelli's Venus and Michelangelo's David…two of my favorite Florentines…in chess form…

Good looking structures…

Happy Friday…
