Votes, Vetoes, and Victories

I can hear the quiet hum of CNN blaring Senator McCain’s concession to America’s new President, Barack Obama. JD is downstairs narrating the scene frame by frame as I umm hmm from my office. It’s been one of the most riveting elections and while there are people celebrating and commiserating nationwide, I’m doing a happy dance all my own.

Yes, I care about the election. Yes, I voted. Yes, I drove 45 minutes to vote. And, yes, I proudly wore my sticker. Yes, yes, yes.

I am, however, happy for a reason entirely all my own. Or my mother’s own. It seems like God took a vote, and it was in my mother’s favor. My family received news yesterday that my mother is cancer free. The results from her operation were clear and though she’ll be wearing a scar on her neck indefinitely, it’ll be a badge of commemoration to remind us of how far she’s come. And how far she’ll go.

It’s nice to know that a vote was cast in our favor and I’m thankful. Thank YOU to the many people who emailed and left encouraging comments…I know they made my mom hold her head a little higher and trust that the world is small and bound together with the twine of hope and prayer. Thank you.
