Lake Tekapo : New Zealand
|

Y esterday we drove through what could've been a slice of Heaven. No, really, everywhere I looked, there appeared to be a celestial element everywhere. Each bend of the road brought forth new beauty and, yes, even the sheep looked beautiful. Despite the jet-lag, JD and I are loving every minute of our time here in New Zealand thus far. We stayed the night at Lake Tekapo and I feel like my soul has found it's resting place. It's gorgeous I could cry. We're off for a hike right now, but here are a few snap shots of our day thus far....
Our awesome hotel... |

| Umm, yeah. There are just random farm houses that make smile... |

| I swear. I swear this was a toe-touch....JD just captured it at the wrong moment. Swear. |

| We're off to Queenstown for the day and plan to spend New Year watching the sunrise together....I wish you all a very happy New Year and may 2010 bring nothing but happiness and joy! |

Just a quick note letting you know I'll be out of the country until January 15, 2010. I'll be meeting amazing photographers in New Zealand and Australia while teaching workshops and I'm SO excited! I have limited internet access, so I'll like be responding to all email upon my return. I hope to blog my adventures, so I'd love to have you along for the crazy ride!

T here are days when I have the most random thoughts. Like today, for instance. I work from home, alone in my office most the day, so my thoughts keep me company. I'll be the first to say I'm a wee bit peculiar, but I'm okay with that. Totally. Here's a snapshot into my brain this morning and all it's randomness...
When I talk to JD, I usually call him Chuck. Don't ask me why.
I clean the tops of condiments after I use them before I put the cap on. Even at restaurants.
I save my To Do lists. You know, just so I can look back and SEE HOW PRODUCTIVE I'VE BEEN.
I convince myself workout pants are acceptable public attire. But deep down I know they're not.
I save buttons. You know when you get an extra button when you buy a new jacket or shirt? Well, I've been saving them for years. I might even have a button that dates back to 1987. Seriously.
I only iron the front of JD's shirt if he's wearing a sweater. No one's gonna see the sleeves anyway!
When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up and be a news anchor like Connie Chung. Today, I'm happy being me.
I know how to push people's buttons. Quickly. I hate this about me.
I don't really weigh what my driver's license states I weigh. (Someone out there, please have my back on this!)
I talk to Polo like he's human. We get each other like that.
When faced with confrontation, I'll wait a few days before I respond for fear I'll say something I later regret.
The thought of being in a bathing suit makes me ill. Like, Someone-please-pass-the-Pepto ill.
I look like a gangsta in my passport picture. Seriously, I could throw up gang signs in that photo and you wouldn't be shocked.
JD bought me new boots for Christmas. And I love them.
I never drive in the slow lane on the freeway. Ever.
Some nights I can't fall asleep because I'm thinking of blog posts. Can you say, l.a.m.e?!
I think that if you eat off someone else's plate, the calories don't count.
I have a messy drawer. A drawer that's totally messy and I keep junk in, but that's okay...because it's my messy drawer.
If a person at the gym starts running on the treadmill next to mine, I won't get off until he does. I'm THAT competitive. Even though he had no clue I was running against him.
Sometimes I buy shoes and then tell JD, Oh, theeeese shoes? Had them for years!
I don't deserve the amazing people I have in my life. I know this. I embrace it. And, I love it.

| Here's a random photo I took on a walk a few days ago while I walked Polo. The colors make me feel alive and I'm reminded of beauty's simplicity... |

Laughter : 2009

I love laughter. I love the way it looks, I love the way it sounds, the way it makes the soul shine. Laughter betrays the happiest part of a person and I'm attracted to it like a magnet. As a photographer, when I'm able to document laughter, I feel like the luckiest person alive. Based on the following selection of photos, 2009 has proven to be my lucky year.
With many thanks to my clients, I've captured a piece of their soul. And I'm incredibly thankful. |

Y esterday my family gathered for a Christmas Eve Eve dinner at my parents' home. When JD, Polo, and I arrived, the house was warm and the air thick with the scents of plantains, rice, beans, and a plethora of other Puerto Rican entrees. My youngest sister, Zoe Belle, invited the family for a home cooked meal to celebrate the year coming to a close. And to also remember my grandmother's legacy. Though no one mentioned it, we celebrated her life and relived her memories with every spoonful of food. And, believe me, there was food. Tons of it.
The sounds of latin music danced through the air and we all laughed, yelled, and as we spoke over each other, there was love. Lots and lots of love. It's a night I never want to forget because life is short and in a blink everything can change. In that moment--ice clinking in glasses, the black beans resting happily on the white rice, and my father's reluctance at wearing a shirt to the dinner table (Iss ah free kuntree...why muss I wear a shirt?!)--I was happy. So incredibly happy.
Merry Christmas, Internet. JD and I wish you happiness, love, and joy during this holiday season! |
