Scrooge McGrinch

Scrooge McGrinch. That's what I call him. Or should I say called him? You see, something strange happened to JD. I secretly think he was visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past in his sleep because the last couple days have revealed a different side to my McGrinch. You might remember how JD likes to kill elves in the North Pole, so could you just imagine my shock when I wake up on December 1st to find my living room decorated? WITH CHRISTMAS DECOR?!

I ran back upstairs and shook JD awake. Who are you and what did you do with my husband?! Oh, and don't feel any pressure to bring him back until January 2nd.

In fact, last year I didn't even bother getting a Christmas tree because JD didn't find the purpose. We don't open gifts at our house, we don't host a parties, and the needles are annoying to vacuum. Such a Scrooge McGrinch move. When JD suggested getting a Christmas tree yesterday, I nearly tripped. Over the shattered pieces of my past Christmas dreams.

I'm kinda tacky when it comes to Christmas. Big, bright, inflatable. Like the one year I decorated our house like Las Vegas and the North Polo got in a fight. I prefer huge Christmas trees. One year I begged JD for a tree he said wouldn't fit in our living room, but he bought it anyway to prove his point. That was the year we chopped off the tip of our tree.

This year JD came home with a tree. Or shall I say tr because it's too small to be a tree. It's more like a Christmas bush. When he brought it out of the car, I swore elves hurdle trees like that. Barbie called and wants her tree back. The Munchin Association is pressing charges for deforestation. I could put a safety pin on that tree and wear it on a Christmas sweater. Jasmine, we don't need a big tree…besides, I bought a special stand for it.

JD explained he found a crate on the tree lot and asked if he could buy it. Yes, it makes the tree look bigger, but it's still a small tree. We go back and forth debating the size when JD says, I'm never buying a bigger tree until we have kids of our own asking for a bigger tree…

I pause. JD, did I tell you how much I LOVE THIS TREE? It's perfect. The size? Just my style! I think I really like small trees. Yup. Just call me Small Trees McStar. You're the bestest tree picker. Ever.
