J D and I spent the last couple of days in Santa Barbara enjoying the company of each other. JD will be traveling a lot in the near future, so he thought a weekend away will be the perfect way to escape the electricity of everyday life in Orange County.
Any trip to Santa Barbara wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t see a few of our friends, so we stayed at David Jay’s house and soaked up the gorgeous view and beauty of California. I make no qualms expressing how much David means to me, but I do have to admit that he wouldn’t be half the man he is without his amazing assistant extraordinaire, Crystal.
Crystal has morphed into David’s right-hand and made his life so much more enjoyable because he’s freed to focus on what he’s called to do, not what he needs to do. Not only is she selfless, professional, efficient, caring, and loving, she’s so much fun! She’s beautiful inside and out, so when she asked if I’d be able to take a few pictures of her, I happily obliged!
|

| Because DJ was away while I photographed Crystal, I snagged his 50mm, 1.0 and shot everything between a 1.0-1.2...dang, I really love that lens and I'm trying to figure out a way to steal it from DJ without him noticing. I'm taking a ideas, so holla back if you got a good one! ;) |

| Because one picture can't possibly sum up Crystal's awesomeness, I had to create a little collage of who she really is! ;) |

DJ and Crystal, thank you SOOOO much for always being so wonderful. JD and I love you and while we try to express our appreciation, we often fall short. We’re shackled to your kindness and hospitality and want to thank you for always being examples of how we should live our lives!
EDITED TO ADD: Here's a picture from DJ's blog I grabbed of all of us at breakfast...Deyl found out Sharkee's offers a HUGE breakfast and unlimited mimosas for only $3.50, so we ate like royalty! :) |

Marisa and Reuben : Day After

 |
© Jasmine Star. This post cannot be republished without permission. Stealing makes me sad. |
|

I t was an unusually chilly day in San Juan Capistrano, but Marisa and Reuben braved the weather to make a little romance along the corridors of the Mission. They married in Los Angeles last August, and—although I was not their wedding photographer—they contacted me for a Day After Session.
Marisa and Reuben are very much in love and wear their devotion on their sleeves. They touch each other gently, listen to the words conveyed in between the lines, and look into each others’ eyes as if it was the first time. I’m quite sure they’re going to have a long and happy life together.
Marisa and Reuben, thank you for giving me a sneak peek into your lives, and into your hearts. I wish you the best as you follow your passions, dream big dreams, and throw caution to the wind. Much Love…J*

| Forgive me...I have a fascination with men's wedding rings... |

| When Marisa told me she wanted to lay down in her dress, I was super stoked! She planed on cleaning the dress after the shoot, so what's a little dust at the end of the day? Nothing...especially considering she'll have these pictures for the rest of her life! :) |

| Peonies and Hydrangea are some of my favorite flowers and they looked so pretty in Marisa'a bouquet... |

J D woke up the same way he always does on special days: Singing a song only he knows the words and tune to. He makes it up as he goes along. Today was the Happy Valentine’s Day song and, boy, was it a doozey!
Happy Valentine’s Day…ooh, yeah, it’s Valentine’s day…I’m gonna wear a red tie today…’cause it’s Valentine’s day…it’s a we’re-in-love day…’cause it’s Valentine’s today…
I’ll spare you the chorus and bridge because, really, it had something to do with love juice and Step in the Name of Love. I think he needs to stop watching American Idol with me! ;)
I’m in no way a Valentine’s Day kinda girl. I feel like it’s too fake, too mandatory. In lieu of this, I asked JD not to buy me gifts or over-sized balloons that read WILD THING or, worse, YOU’RE STILL THE ONE. In fact, a simple dinner for two would be perfect…normal, yet perfect.
This morning, JD surprised me with chocolate covered strawberries (which is Jasmine Star Weakness #6,934) that he hid sometime yesterday while I was on a shoot. He also bought me a potted plant. Not just any potted plant, but a miniature rose bush. Little did I realize JD was watching me while grocery shopping a couple nights ago. I eyed the small rose bush—complete with its tiny red roses and a red heart-shaped gardening stick—and laughed at all its tackiness. It had a bright red vase with red hearts embossed on it and silver heart wrapping. Good grief…it was tacky…but I loved it! It looked like it could belong on the set of Napoleon Dynamite or Juno…and I was smitten. I laughed and walked away a few nights ago, but it ended up in my hands today! I felt so LUCKKKKKKEY.
I want to wish everyone a lovely day today and I hope nothing but happiness and joy fills your hearts! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Here's a picture of me and JD at dinner last night...

| P.S. If any of my blog readers get engaged today—or any of your friends decide to get married—holla back at your girl! ;) |

I had the pleasure of shooting the ever stunning and uber sweet Andrea this week! We worked together in the past, but she wanted a few new photos to spice up her portfolio…and that’s where I came it! I was more than honored documenting her and I’m so excited for her future, as she has some awesome things in store!
Here are a few favorites…

On a completely unrelated sidenote, I want to take the opportunity to wish my mama a wonderful-happy-exciting-satisfying-hopeful-and-amazing birthday!! Today is her birthday and I couldn’t be any more proud of being her daughter. I firmly believe God gave me to my mother because there was no one else in the world who could take care of me—pat my back, kiss my wounds, hug me when I cry—they way she can. I probably wasn’t the easiest kid to raise, but she poured so much into me that I now own a large fraction of her heart.
Mama, I love you…thank you for your selflessness and devotion…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The Camel is Featured on the [b] School Blog
|

O ccasionally, my family calls me The Camel. And, no, I don’t have some crazy double-hump-thing on my back I’m trying to hide! I just drink a lot of water. A LOT. In fact, water is my favorite drink…I can’t get enough of the stuff! I’m not exaggerating when I claim to sleep with a jug of water by my bed. Not a cup, a JUG. Like I said, my family calls me The Camel.
When I was asked to be a part of the Thirst Relief Auction, I was honored. Not just because it’s a worthy cause to donate my time, but because water is the common thread that ties humanity together. It’s one of the few things we all need. And it’s a shame it’s something few people have the luxury to enjoy—because it is a luxury in more than half the world. Thirst Relief is actively campaigning against this notion and I’m honored to be standing along side such a great organization.
Because of your generous donations, I’ve reached about $400. THANK YOU! I’m humbled and flattered by your benevolence. The auction ends today at 5pm PST, so this is my last not-so-shameless plug to make a tax-deductible donation to hang out with me at WPPI in Las Vegas (or we can make it a phone conference if you’re not going to WPPI)! In addition to crafting a 90-minute session with me addressing whatever you’d like, you’ll also receive $250 to the ShowIt store. Suh-weet!
Feel free to CLICK HERE to make a bid on me! And, really, bidding wars are more than welcome! ;)

In other news, my good friend [b]ecker invited me to the his first guest on the The [b] School Blog! I have to admit that I was SOOOO nervous while we filmed (and it’s oh-so-painfully apparent!), but I had such a blast doing it! The cool news is The [b] School Blog divided my interview into separate parts, so be on the look out for more to come! I thought I got multiple episodes because I was so darn interesting, but [b]ecker informed me that I just talked too much! Nothing like a friend to keep you grounded!! :)
Happy Tuesday!
