Y
esterday I shot a wedding…and it was fantabulous! Yes, it rained, but the weather couldn’t dampen the spirit of the beautiful day. I absolutely LOVE what I do. I’m blessed to do it. And I’m honored to capture the most special day in a person’s life.

What made yesterday’s wedding so amazing was I was joined by an AWESOME crew of people. The lovely Courtney Toney of Joyful Weddings and Events was there making sure the day went off without a hitch (I love this girl!!), and my good friend David Jay was there to second shoot for me. How rad is that? He brought along Paul, videographer extraordinaire, and Allie for the day, so we all spent the day enjoying each other’s company. I felt so blessed.

I’ll be posting wedding pictures soon, but I just had to express my heartfelt appreciation for my friends…they make me love what I do…and I’m a better person because of them!

This picture cracked me up!!! Don't you just love how in focus we are?! Don't worry, folks, we're completely professional! :)

The lovely Courtney

Happy Sunday!

Starbox Lunch : 3

P
eople often underestimate the time a wedding photographer spends alone. The only moments I have human interaction in an average day is when I go to the gym and I’m ashamed to admit I see my fellow workout-a-holics more than I see my own family. I spend my day firmly planted behind my computer and while I absolutely LOVE what I do, I also miss the touch, sights, and sounds of a regular job. This is probably why I call JD 372 times a day.

Wha’cha doin’!?!
Oh, you know…this little thing called WORK…
Pffft! Okay, so I totally forgot to tell you that The Hills is starting again soon

And I also forgot to tell you that I need a pedicure
Uh huuuuh
And for lunch, I grilled soy chicken and veggies…and it was delish!

This is very much how a mid-day conversation with me will sound. Totally.Enthralling.

So you could just imagine how torturous life is when JD is away! He’s in Austin, Texas, but yesterday ten amazing people filled his shoes. Because, really, JD’s shoes are really hard to fill! ;)

Yesterday, I hosted my Third Ever Starbox Lunch! Woohoo! If you’d like to read about the last two, you can Click Here for a review. I love arranging these lunches because it’s a great way to meet new photographers and create an opportunity for people to network and build friendships. I LOVE IT! Every time I think the lunches can’t get any better, they do! Yesterday was a total blast…at least I had a good time…I hope everyone else felt the same way! ;)

We met at Buca Di Beppo in Irvine and, because of the size of our group, were seated at the notorious Pope Table. I somehow managed to sit at the center of the table with a picture of the Pope giving his blessing right above my head…I must’ve looked totally vain sitting in that chair, but I SWEAR it was an accident. Everyone must’ve thought was completely vain and conceited…either that or totally holy! Thank you to my new friends for not holding my chair choice against me...and providing the touch, sights, and sounds that I sometimes miss.

If anyone has snapshots from lunch, feel free to send them my way and I'll add them here...well, on the condition that I don't look completely heinous talking with my mouth full or something like that! ;)

I don't have another lunch planned soon, but as soon as I get one going, I'll be sure to blog about it and accept requests...please note, I cannot respond to Starbox emails until then. Thanks in advance for understanding! :)

EDITED TO ADD: Here's a couple pictures Serena caught of me dying of embarrassment as I sat in the Pope Chair

I
had the pleasure of meeting with Christina of Simply Modern Weddings to capture an updated photo for her website. She’s a lovely wedding coordinator and her personality is the benchmark of her blossoming business. If you’re a bride and looking for someone to make your day stress free, enjoyable, and memorable, give her a call and she’ll take very good care of you.

As a sidenote, I LOVE when my brides hire a wedding consultant because it frees me to focus strictly on photography and leave the logistics to a professional who truly knows the ebb and flow of such a special day! If you’re a J* Bride and want wedding coordinator referrals, be sure to check out J'Adore Details for all your planning needs!

Now onto the wonderful and sweet, Christina…and in case anyone is wondering, I intentionally blogged fierce pictures because, really, she looks stunning. I'm sure she'll choose an image that's a little more profesh, and a little less diva for her website...but it's my blog and I'll err on the side of fabulousness because inside every girl is a model in hiding! ;)

I
t happened over lunch one hazy afternoon. We sat there and spoke about life, business, and the balancing of both worlds. With the cubes melting in our iced tea, we discussed how to meet the needs of our brides more effectively, as well as help brides in general. So often, we found ourselves emailing brides with our recommendations—florists, DJs, makeup artists—but what if they could find everything we loved in one spot? What if a bride could find awesome and trusted vendors from actual industry insiders? How could a bride create the most fantastical day in a single sitting? That’s where J’Adore Details comes in…

J’Adore Details is a website created by Amelia Lyon, Trista Lerit, DrewB, and myself to highlight a some of our favorite vendors we’ve worked with in the past. They’re all unfathomably amazing and if any of our brides choose to work with them, we’d be tickled pink! We’ve also created a new blog to feature our latest work and the site/links will be updated with new favs and images. We’re so excited for this project because we’ve been working on it for what seems like forever…and a day! A special thanks to Blu Domain for its perfect site and all the help we’ve received along the way…we love you guys!

Lastly, I want express my deepest appreciation to Amelia, Tris, and Drew…we spent tireless nights trying to get organized…over BJ’s Pizza and Pizookies…laughing…encouraging…hugging…our way through this process. I love you and think you're wonderful!! :)

...Six Months Later

S
ix months ago, we stood in the ICU and prayed that little Corey Preston—our new little nephew—would be happy and healthy. He was born prematurely and, while he was still just a baby, we knew he was a fighter! We celebrated his six-month birthday last Sunday evening and he’s become the King Of The Family in such a short time…something tells me his smile and deep brown eyes are going to extend his reign for quite some time!

Just as the sun was setting, I snapped a few photos of Corey to document just how far he’s come…

Call me silly, but I think Corey's afro-hawk is hilarious! :)

On a completely unrelated sidenote...
Pro Photo Resource just published a recent article I submitted. It focuses on my shooting preferences as well as shooting subjects backlit, so if you're interested Check It Out!
