Fiona and Allen : Anytime
|

S he's from Malaysia. He's from Malaysia, but currently lives in Hong Kong. They live three and half hours apart, but they found themselves together on the other side of the world. In Laguna Beach, California to be exact. The sky was a dark shade of grey, but hues of purple begged to been seen. They unfolded themselves against the crashing ocean and beckoned the sun's arrival.
The morning air was crisp and fresh, so Fiona and Allen cuddled closely as they awaited the sunrise. From a distance, he whispered something in her ear. Fiona threw her head back and laughed. Allen pulled her in closer. Love was in the air. The crisp and fresh air.
They visited the United States for business and pleasure. And photos. Fiona is owner of Fi Foto in Malaysia and came across my work. Oh blessed Internet. She emailed me a few months ago and inquired about an Anytime session, which I was more than happy to shoot. From the moment I met them under the grey sky, I knew we'd be friends. Instantly. They're simply fabulous and it was an honor documenting their love... |

| I guess Allen wasn't into public displays of affection! ;) |

| After taking this shot, I thanked God for my career. There I was...shooting at the break of dawn...along the California coast...with an amazing couple. It doesn't get any better than that! :) |

| After playing on the coast, we hung out in Downtown Laguna Beach for a bit... |

| I'll end this post with this series of pictures because it just makes me smile... |

Grey Likes Weddings : Arranged Workshop

 |

|

A t the start of 2009, I promised myself I'd do things that were: 1. Uncharacteristic of me; 2. Fun and fabulous; and 3. Make me a better photographer. Whatever I planned to do didn't need all three elements to qualify, but last Saturday I did something that rolled everything into one. Kind of a like a calzone, without the calories.
When I heard fabublogger (yes, I make up words because they sound cool) Summer Watkins of Grey Likes Weddings was hosting a workshop on Do It Yourself floral arrangements, I immediately signed up. I'm a firm believer in workshops and I feel like in order to take better pictures of floral arrangements and wedding decor, I should learn how understand what goes into them to make them so beautiful. That's where Summer came in. She's simply amazing at what she does and has a special gift for event design!
After a lunching in Huntington Beach, Jessica Claire and I went to Arranged and it was love at first sight. And first smell. And first touch. And first sound. We worked on creating our own floral arrangement and wedding bouquet...so fun! If you'd like more information on how to procure a hot seat to the next workshop in May, CLICK HERE for more details...here are a few photos from the day... |

| Yummm...cookies and milk... |

Here's Summer at the start of the class....
|

| Here's Jessica making kale look extra fab... |

| Jessica took the photo of me on the right... |

| Here's Summer and her AMAZING mom, Cheryl, who was nothing short of wonderful... |

| Jessica took the photo on the left of the lovely Summer... |

| Voila! The finished bouquet... |

| The final results...everyone had their own flair to their pieces, but I think that's what made them extra fun... |

| I had such a great time and I'm excited to do other things to make 2009 the Year of Great Things! On my list is taking a writing workshop in Los Angeles (oh, this makes me SO nervous) and take a Salsa dance class. Eeek...I'm so excited just thinking about it! :) |

T he first time I saw Brooke let her hair down--both literally and metaphorically--was an evening last summer. She was celebrating her birthday at Medieval Times and wanted everyone--friends, knights, and royalty--to know she was loving life. To the fullest, without regard to sideways glances, but, instead, with raised glasses toasting her life. After the food and festivities commenced, Brooke cajoled everyone--friends, knights, and royalty--onto the dancefloor to shake their wildthings. Donning a red and yellow crown, Brooke danced like no one was watching.
That's the thing about Brooke. She lives and loves life like no one is watching and it's one of her finest qualities. Amongst many.
Brooke is the Queen Bee and coordinator extraordinaire of Brooke Keegan Weddings and Events, and recently contacted me for updated headshots for her new website. I was more than happy to capture Brooke's lovely spirit...and even captured a few photos of her dancing like no one was watching... |

| One of Brooke's favorite pair of shoes is a beaded Gucci heels...how can you NOT feel fabulous in shoes like these?! ;) |

| Brooke is a volleyball player, dancer, and all-around fun girl to be around...here are a few photos of her doing her thing... |

| A special thanks goes to Ashley Hurley of The Style Update for styling Brooke for the shoot! |

Martha and Joaquin : Day After
|

R omance helps. It does. Roses, sweet nothings, boxes of chocolate. Physical attraction helps too. His brown eyes, her smile, his lips. But what holds everything together is laughter. It's the glue that holds the thousand-piece Love Puzzle together and keeps it intact for many years to come. By the looks of things, Joaquin and Martha will be together for a long time.
After dating close to nine years, Martha and Joaquin married last October and started their Happily Ever After. Life is flying--he's studying for the bar exam, and she's working on her amazing career--but they've remained by each others' sides laughing the entire time. With just a few words, Joaquin has Martha in stitches and her laughter eggs him on even more. They're a wonderful match.
I was honored with Martha contacted me to shoot their Day After session in Laguna Beach, the location where Joaquin proposed to Martha. Here are a few of my favorites... |

| A special thanks goes to Nicole DeAnne for doing a wonderful job with Martha's hair and makeup... |

Kisses and Disses : Lost and Polenta
|

I woke up this morning at 5:30am--after going to bed at 1am--to the sound of the alarm on my iPhone. Oh no you di'ent just wake me up from my sleep! Alas, she kept yelling at me until I relented. I slowly moved around and prepared my gear for a sunrise shoot. Yes, I just said SUNRISE. I don't get too many requests for morning shoots, but as I drove alone Pacific Coast Highway to the sights and sounds of the ocean, I felt blessed.
Now that I'm back into the normal work day, I've just decided a needed a nap in a major way. May-jah way. Before I bury my head, I wanted to post a few Kisses and Disses...because they sure seem to pile up in a week!
|

This week's DISSES go to:
*My eyebrows. They're thinning so I think I need hair transplants above my brow bone. Or start using Just For Men on my forehead.
*Polenta. I tried making it for dinner. Emphasis on tried. It was no surprise JD and I were rocking Subway Sandwiches later that night.
*Taxes. Don't get me wrong I'm glad my streets are paved and Polo has a green dog park, but really? REALLY? My mind can't even wrap itself around my tax damage. Even with the help of an Ace bandage I couldn't wrap it up entirely. Uncle Sam needs his head checked. |

This week's KISSES go to:
*Reese Witherspoon. Have you seen her on the cover of Elle Magazine?! The photo spread?! Be still my beating heart. They are amazing!! I adore Reese Witherspoon and she could probably spit in my soup and I'd still like her. Oh, Reese, you make everything taste better!
*Navel oranges. Good grief...I love me some good citrus yumminess. I've been trying (emphasis on trying) to cut away sweets from my diet and the only thing that satisfies my soul is a navel orange. It ain't Ben&Jerry but it'll do.
*LOST. Is anyone else just head over heels that Jack and Sawyer are bearing their chests on network television again? Rawr. Now, if Benjamin Linus and John Locke could expose their fleshy goodness, I could die a happy girl. (It's a joke, Internet!)
Happy Wednesday! |
