There are some girls who let life guide them. Happily, contently. Then there are girls–like Alicia–who take life by the reigns, wear their favorite designer chaps, and ride it at full gallop pace. Alicia looks at the world with a smile, and the man who keeps her in such a state of bliss is Steven. He nods, encourages, and challenges Alicia without words, but, rather, with a silent force just the two of them share. His voice, much like a late-night R&B disk jockey, soothes her rapid sentences and laughter. And Alicia? Well, with one glance Steven's way, she causes him to squint his eyes closed, toss his head back with a large smile, and melt into a puddle of love mush.

At the beginning of their engagement session, I stood at a distance, but I heard Steven ask Alicia if she was okay. Are you crying? You don't need to cry… Steven pulled Alicia into his chest and squeezed her tightly. Then I kinda panicked. Did my breath smell? Did I offend her in the first five minutes of the shoot? Was my laugh annoying her? Breath check. Had to be my breath.

The day after the shoot, I received an email from Alicia…
We sat at dinner last night and Steven asked me what was running through my mind when I got emotional at the beginning of our session. I couldn't believe that I was standing there, with him, with someone as fabulous as you following US around documenting OUR love story. I've documented other people countless times, seen it on 1,298 blogs, but this was us. It was finally our turn. And in that moment, I wanted to take it all in, enjoy the feeling, and savor the look in his eyes, the smell in the air and the cool breeze on my shoulders.

That's why I love Alicia. She's simply amazing. And Steven makes her amazing-er. And thank the sweet lord it wasn't my breath that brought tears to her eyes! 🙂

I cannot wait for their wedding this May…partially because I get to hang out with them again…and partially because their wedding is going to be ultra fab…and partially because I can't wait to take pictures of all her details! Hollllla!
