Tomorrow is Jeannie’s BIRTHDAY!

Last Monday, the fabulous girls of Details, Details Wedding Coordination planned a surprise celebration for Jeannie Savage, owner and creative genius. A group of people gathered at Tommy Bahama’s in Newport Beach to show our appreciation for the indelible impression she leaves on our lives.

I was asked to bring my camera to the dinner to document the surprise and I was more than happy to oblige! I truly appreciated being there and value my friendships with such amazing wedding professionals!

Jeannie, I hope you have a FABULOUS day! Enjoy your birthday and cherish the time with your family! I hope you laugh, love, and eat an extra slice of red velvet cake for me! ;)

Speaking of cake, how AWESOME is this cake?!? Grace of Sweet Gems created this masterpiece, making a perfect Jeannie look-alike! :) If any of my brides want a gorgeous cake (and very delicious to boot!), give Grace a call!

Life in the Bathroom
04.29.08
- Personal

What…are…you…dooooing? I posed this incredulous question to JD as he marched to our bathroom with a beautiful floral arrangement. He flashed me a look that that made me second-guess my own question. No, really, what are you doing?! JD spoke over his right shoulder as he told me he was placing the flowers in the bathroom.

Obviously. I mean, doesn’t EVERYONE place a floral arrangement where he brushes his teeth and shaves? Obviously.

I begged him to place the flowers in the living room, where they can be seen and lighten our environment. He wasn’t having it. No, no, flowers should be seen in random places to serve as a reminder of surprised spurts of happiness.

Okay. So who could argue with that?!

That’s where JD and I are so different. I want everything on the outside, and he…well…he prefers splendor of the inside kind. Beauty found in crevices and cracks. He lives life looking—and finding—the random bouquets in a person’s petite bathroom. I love him for that and need to try living my life outside the confines of my proverbial living room...and see life's spurts of happiness.

Happy Tuesday!

Christine and Noland : Wedding

T
hey wrote letters to each other to be read and heard for the first time during the wedding ceremony. As destiny would design it, both Noland and Christine wrote letters that were mirrors of each other. They remember going to senior prom together—Christine in her bedazzled, baby blue dress, and Noland in white polyester pants—and how their paths parted shortly after high school.

Noland still thought of Christine, and she still thought of him.

Then, on New Year’s Eve many years later—amongst thousands of people at a Paramount Studios Party—they saw each other from a distance and made contact. Emotional, physical, mental. They fell in love via late-night phone calls and realized the kids who went to prom together were tucked away in memory’s dusty lockers were just wishing to emerge.

This past weekend at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, Noland and Christine read their letters aloud during their gorgeous wedding ceremony. No longer wearing prom attire, they still looked stunning standing next to each other and promising an eternity of devotion.

Noland and Christine (my pal!)…thank you for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day. I think the world of you both and I wish you nothing but love, joy and happiness together! You’re on your way to Maui right now, so be sure to ride a sea turtle, eat shaved ice, and kiss under a waterfall for me! Love and Appreciation…j*

Christine and Noland opted for a First Look, so we were fortunate to photograph in beautiful light and have plenty of time for pictures with just the bride and groom...so nice! :)

Nolan is a total jokester...this is a very good depiction of their relationship!! ;)

A special thanks to Lei-Ann of Happy Flowers for all the florals...

Just after being announced as Husband and Wife...

A special thanks to Trista for second shooting for me! :)

Polo, Pinkberry, and Perfection
04.26.08
- Personal

I woke up with excitement.

JD was washing the dishes when he heard Polo run to our bed and pounce on my belly. What do you want to do today, JD asked after he heard me wrestling the four-legged, white ball of fur.

I WANT BE A NORMAL GIRL!

Okay, so while this may sound dramatic, it wasn’t. Or maybe it was, but it wasn’t intended to be. Now that wedding season is in full-swing, Saturdays are filled with work and loads of busyness. Because I shot a wedding yesterday, my weekend was free to do what I wanted. And feel like a normal girl on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon.

In the morning, we walked to breakfast, meandered around Heaven for a while (a.k.a. Barnes&Noble), bought a few books, spent the afternoon by the pool, lunched at our favorite restaurant, then took a long nap. If this doesn’t sound the most perfect day ever, JD, Polo and I went to Pinkberry at the Irvine Spectrum to round out our day. Perfection, I tell you.

Happy Saturday!

Tracy and Alex : Anytime
04.24.08
- Anytime

They were friends. Since high school.

Alex and Tracy saw each other in the light of friendship and often enjoyed each other’s company. Just before graduation—at the ripe age of 17—Tracy enlisted in the Army, promising her allegiance to the United States of America during the height of the war in Iraq. Alex promised to stay in touch while Tracy was abroad, and he did.

While Tracy was stationed in Europe, Alex thought a visit to his friend was just what she needed…a slice of home on a different continent. Then something changed: Friendship, devotion, and care melted into unadulterated love. When Alex returned to the US, he knew something was different and realized a part of his heart was left in the pocket of Tracy’s Army fatigues.

Last week, as Tracy deboarded a civilian plane on a three-week holiday from her role as sergeant, Alex nervously waited for her…because, in addition to having a piece of her heart, he clutched a diamond engagement ring in pocket. Tracy said YES and though she’ll return to her responsibilities serving America abroad, Tracy’s allegiance is happily divided between her country and future husband.

I was SO honored to photograph Alex and Tracy! Alex called me a while ago and shared his proposal plans with me, so I was happy to photograph them less than a week of being engaged! The wedding isn’t for a while—as Tracy will return abroad and finish her duty of service—but I know they’ll begin this journey happily.

I don't know what exactly was going on in his picture, but I think it had something to do with Alex questioning Tracy's toughness...

...Which later prompted Tracy challenging Alex to push-ups! :)

Probably my favs from the session...
