Posing : It Gives Me Gas

There are days. Then there are THOSE days. Days when creativity and inspiration come with a sense of pulling teeth and eye blinking that lasts for minutes instead of nanoseconds. Everybody has those days, but I've discovered the more I shoot, the more frequently these days appear…moments when I feel like poses, frames, and moments are similar. Too similar. I want to keep things fresh when I photography, so I try to do different things, even if I'm shooting in a familiar location.

I view my left-brain like a gas tank. Every time I shoot, I use gas…so the more I shoot, the emptier my tank becomes. So how do I replenish my tank? With my eyes.

Whenever I'm out and about, I keep my eyes open for art to inspire me. Photos that make me feel something, or see the human form in a new light. A few weeks ago, I received the new BCBG catalogue to my home. As I pursued the glossy pages, I realized the catalogue made an AWESOME posing guide! I mean, each page was filled with girls posing in a new way, and I knew I'd be able to employ these poses during an engagement session or wedding with my bride! Here are a few samples of poses…

JD and I were shopping a few days ago at Calvin Klein and I saw a large photo that kinda took my breath away. I loved it THAT much. Whenever this happens, I whip out my iPhone and snap a photo…just so I can look at it later before a shoot. Please forgive the quality of this photo, but I want to show what I'm referring to…

I thought this may help a few people…if there are blog readers who have other ways to help me fill my gas tank, I'd love to hear them! Feel free to leave your ideas in the comment box…if you do, it'll be your lucky day, you'll find a bag of money, and the person who have a crush on will fall in love with you. But only if you forward this to five friends in the next five minutes. 😉
