or the past three days I've been talking. And talking. Non-stop. I could probably go on and on, but right now I'm at a loss for words because of the generous outpouring of support, encouragement, and grace...from you. Yes, Internet, I'm writing from my Seattle hotel room completely overwhelmed and, yes, exhausted, but it pales to the new friends I've made and the moments we created.
Teaching at creativeLIVE was an honor and I appreciate the ability to do what I love. Thanks for coming along for the ride and I look forward to dedicating a complete blog post soon to the editorial photo shoot, but for now here's a sneak peek.
Lastly, for those who reached out on Twitter and Facebook to send encouragement...thank you. There were moments when I begged the sweet Lord Almighty to have the ground open and swallow me whole, but when it didn't happen, your support carried me through.
I owe you one.

appy Friday!! Besides it being the end of the week (HOLLLLLA!) it's also the start of the FREE creativeLIVE online photography course I'm teaching starting TODAY and going through the weekend. That's right! I'm in Seattle teaching today, tomorrow and Sunday starting at 9am PST, so if you'd like to learn more about how to shoot weddings with an editorial flair, feel free to tune into www.CreativeLive.com/LIVE.
This is, of course, a photo of the Space Needle...which is the only need I can handle.
I always get a little nervous teaching online because I'm afraid no one will tune in, but my mom promised to log in, so if you're there too, give her a holler. She may just send you a Christmas card for becoming her online pen pal.
he thing I remember most about her email was her assuredness. Sharon was polite, yet entirely straight-forward. She warmly introduced herself, wrote about her love for her fiance, Ivan, and the upcoming plans for their Houston wedding at The Parador. Oh, and if I was available she was interested in having me photograph their nuptials. Just like that.
Right then and there, I knew I liked her.
I had the absolute honor and pleasure of documenting the sweetest wedding for two of the nicest people I've encountered. Like, ever. Sharon and Ivan aren't just in love, they have the ability to inject their happiness in those around them. Their joy is infectious, so I was absolutely delighted to see their Texas wedding in the national issue of The Knot Magazine so even more people could see their love!
Happy Thursday!
Shooting Star : Engagement Shoot Tips

here was a point not too long ago when I came to the realization that I'd lost control of what I wanted. Heck, who am I kidding? I wasn't even control to begin with. It got to a point where I almost dreaded shooting an engagement session because I didn't know what to expect. Once, during my first year of business, a client showed up an hour and a half late to an engagement session. Hold on...lemme pause for dramatic effect...AN HOUR AND A HALF!!!
But I soon realized it wasn't my clients' fault...it was mine. How could I expect clients to know just how important arriving on time was if I didn't explain to them in advance? How were they supposed to know the intricacies of shooting with natural light? How could they know what I needed if I didn't tell them in advance?
Through the years, I've grown to lovelovelove engagement sessions and part of why I enjoy them is because I work with the clients in advance to ensure we're on the same page. This installment of Shooting Star, I'll be discussing Engagement Shoot Tips given to clients before their session for an optimal experience. They're as follows, but I go into depth in the video...
1. Send Links to Past Engagement Sessions to Ensure Clients Know What to Expect
2. Explanation of Natural Light and the Importance of Arriving on Time
3. What to Wear on an Engagement Shoot
4. How to Choose and Personalize the Engagement Session Location
5. Explain the Goals for the Engagement Shoot
Happy Wednesday!
