Russh Magazine and Thinking Differently

It's like an unhealthy addiction. Like a recovering alcoholic stepping into a bar for just a smell. The droplets of spilled tequila from the night before. I, too, need to get my fix. Of Barnes&Noble. It's euphoric and the smell alone of the books, pages, and glue drive me crazy and in a Pavlovian manner I waive my credit card ready to buy anything with words in it. Come here you pretty little font, you…

JD usually reminds me that I can easily buy more books than I could read, so to tread with caution. Essentially, he's saying to stay at the door of the bar and take a whiff. My whiff usually comes in the form of magazines and last week I came across a magazine I really liked. Of course I snag my usual suspects–Vanity Fair, W, Vogue–but RUSSH stood out. I perused the pages and instantly felt inspired. It definitely pushes fashion and photography (be warned, it's flesh friendly), but I liked it because it made me think differently. Feel something. And, really, the font use made dance a jig. In the store.

Thinking outside of what makes you comfortable is the first step in defining more of who you are and what you want to capture. I know most of the photography in the magazine is so different than how I shoot, but it made me want to push myself, and see the world differently. This–in respect to inspiration–should be the driving force to who we are as artists and entrepreneurs.

Happy Wednesday…
