No Cereal This Afternoon!
06.14.07
- Personal

So, what did you eat for breakfast this morning, JD asked during our first of multiple daily conversations.
Oh, the same thing I ate for breakfast and lunch for the past two days.
Honey Nut Cheerios?! Again?! You’re not serious…
Tragically, I am.
Jaz, you need to go buy groceries. What are you going to eat for lunch?
A salad.
Great! You’re going shopping?
Pffft! Who has time for groceries…I’m going out to lunch!

A while ago, Jen Harris and Melissa McClure contacted me after reading a blurb on [b]ecker’s blog. Becker wants to meet with new photographers when he gets the chance, so as long as they buy lunch, he’s down to drop knowledge. Cool idea, right? Yeah, I thought so too. That is, of course, until Jen and Melissa offered to drive from Corona and San Diego respectively and meet with me. To pick my brain, to talk shop, and bounce ideas off each other.

At first I thought it was a joke, but when their sincerity was consistently reaffirmed—and they offered to buy lunch!—I stepped away from my computer and stacks of moving boxes and met them for an afternoon of great times.

Melissa and Jen, thanks for everything…I can’t wait for the amazing things you’ll do in the near future! Lastly, thanks for the blog-lovin’…your comments and feedback is always appreciated :)

Here are a few pictures...

Meesa and Andy : Wedding

T
he curlers were cooling along an adjacent end table at the salon. The final loose tendril had been tucked away in the ebony curls and the veil had just been pinned when her matron of honor asked, Sooo, do you feel brideful?!? Meesa rested the handheld mirror in her lap and smiled most assuredly. Apparently, she was feeling most brideful.

When Andy saw Meesa in her dress and veil before the ceremony—the two of them nestled in a quiet room of their large church—oversized tears rolled down his cheeks. He grabbed her hands tightly and took a step backward to take her all in; the sight of her, the smell, the sound of her breathing. As she wiped the tears from his face, they embraced and the tears continue to roll.

Meesa and Andy spent the day amongst 350 friends and family celebrating in their day. Their amazing bridal party (and Milee!!) came together and helped orchestrate a flawless day full of love, tears, and laughter. As the newlyweds floated from table to table, it was evident that Meesa was no longer feeling brideful, but, rather, feeling flagrantly in love.

Meesa and Andy, thank you for allowing me to document your day. I’m convinced your friends are out-of-this-world and I appreciate being warmly welcomed by them. Have fun in Paris and Rome…don’t forget to kiss under the Eiffel Tower! ;)

After their ceremony, we headed to the Omni Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles for their second wedding reception and tons of partying!

I just had to post this picture...I love my clients!! I asked Meesa and Andy if they were willing to stand in the middle of the street for a few pictures. They obliged, but no more than two minutes later, a police caravan headed our way. Before we got ticketed, we scampered off, but we all thought it was pretty funny stopping traffic! :)

And I'd be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to Martin and Elizabeth at Barrington Flowers for their amazing work on the bouquets, centerpieces, and aisle accoutrements...they were just stunning!

I've Moved!

Hi!

I just wanted to drop a line and let everyone know I'm--finally--moved and getting settled here in Irvine. Things are good, but my life is still in overdrive. Please forgive the delay in email and blog postings...I'm hoping to get all caught up tomorrow (I should have Internet access by then...finally!), and blog about last Saturday's wedding.

Also, I just want to say thanks to everyone--EVERYONE!--for helping JD and I move yesterday. I'm truly indebted to my fabulous in-laws, Jesse, Jason, and Jon for working like mad in helping us adjust to our new place.

Brittany and Shawn : Wedding

S
he had enough. After reviewing caterers, comparing venue alternatives, and connecting the proverbial wedding dots, she had enough. Brittany was in the process of planning her wedding and reception when she and Shaun decided to disregard convention and host an intimate affair. No pomp, no frills, just a good old fashion love fest. Surrounded by forty of their closest family and friends, and tucked away in a vintage courtroom in Orange County, they promised their lives to each other.

The breeze ruffled the palm trees lining the old town streets as Brittany and Shawn walked along talking about their honeymoon. Cruise to Mexico, did-you-remember-the sunblock, can-you-believe-we’re-getting-married, SPF 25, right? And although her bouquet wasn’t ready for the wedding, and though her marriage license was left at home, and guests were given the wrong directions, Brittany just smiled and laughed through it all. Because—just as she stated in her vows—she was happy to be marrying the man who laughed at her unfunny jokes and also teaches her to be a better person.

Britt and Shawn, you made my Friday afternoon just amazing. I’m so blessed to have such easygoing and uncomplicated clients who make me fall more in love with photography…have a blast in Mexico and get a tan for me! ;)

Here are a few of my favorites…

The gorgeous Brittany

How did I love her red shoes? Let me count the ways....

And here's a sneak peek into their ceremony (which I'll fully show in their slideshow when I embed it in the next few days)

Lunch with the Girls in OC

A
midst the cardboard boxes—all resembling forsaken towers in the corners of my living room—I was fortunate enough to take a break and join a group of my favorite people for lunch this afternoon. We had a great time catching up on each other’s lives and talking business…aaaand picking at the minutiae details of personal lives that makes for the juiciest of conversations! ;)

Being able to gather as a group of female photographers here in Orange County is such a blessing and I love hanging out with such a talented and wonderful group of ladies. Creating networks of friendship overlapped with our careers is amazing and I encourage everyone to call a group of your friends and do the same thing. You’ll be so glad you did! :)

Here’s Jessica Claire showing off her fancy-schmancy straight hair (girl, you know you looked good!), with Mary Jane and Amelia Lyon in the background looking ever so cute

Amy, Lauren Hillary, and Shyla

What a small world...while walking through Fashion Island, I wanted a group shot, but I brought along my 5D and I wished there was another photographer around to take our picture. Lucky for us, I ran into the fabulous James Christianson, who just so happened to be visiting from Colorado. We met last year at Mike Colon's seminar and have stayed in contact since...he's amazing and he took this picture of us! Thanks, James!! :)
