Aversion, Accolades, and Apologies
|

I think JD is conducting an experiment. And it goes a little something like this: He washes the dishes but will leave soiled utensils in the sink. It seems like our equal division of chores hasn't been so, well, equal. I beg him to wash the utensils because I HATE doing it. I don't know what it is, I just HATE touching dirty forks and knives. Blech. Not to be outsmarted, JD made it a point to tell me there are no clean spoons or forks remaining. Oh no he di'ent! I simply smiled and thanked him for washing the dishes for the umpteenth time in a row. With a mid-day craving for ice cream, I darted to the freezer for a little Ben&Jerry action. Uhh, no spoon. So, ladies and gentlemen, I did what any non-washing-utensil person would do: I ate my ice cream with a knife. Because, really, that's how I roll. And sans the few pokes on my tongue, I'm doing juuuuust fine.
I recently got a pedicure. And I Went Red again. Go me!
Since the launch of Jasmine-Star.com, I’ve received a mountain of emails. Like so many emails I get anxious just thinking about it. A few nights ago I couldn’t sleep. As if on cue, JD muttered from under his pillow (yes, he sleeps under, instead of on it), Stop thinking about your email… I can’t help it. I have an obsessive personality and I feel horribly when someone contacts me and I can’t personally respond. I’m sorry!
In the same vein, if you’ve sent me a message on Facebook…I’m sorry too! I’m so bad with Facebook you have no idea. I’m still trying to, like, get it. Is it just me or is Throwing a Chicken at someone just plain weird? I understand the social connecting aspect of it, but I still feel detached in a way. Which is why there are oodles of untouched messages. My bad!
In other news, Pro Photo Resource just published my most recent article regarding branding, so if you’d like to take a quick read, you can find it by clicking here. |

The Love Triumvirate and The PUG
|

I was ironing JD’s dress shirt when I heard his muffled voice complain, Not HIM, again! JD was standing in the closet choosing the right tie when I turned on my latest musical crush, Tyrone Wells. I’ve had his music playing non-stop for the past week and there’s no end in sight. Which is driving JD crazy.
I curtly responded with, Yes, well, at least HE’LL be going with me to San Diego tonight! Oooh, that was a low-punch. JD appeared in the doorway with a red tie in his hand and an apologetic expression. You know I want to be there…I’m sorry. JD was supposed to drive down to San Diego with me for the PictageUserGroup presentation, but later realized the event was on the same evening of his sister’s high school graduation. We decided it’d be best for him to go to the ceremony.
But still. I was kinda sad to go by myself, so I took a low-punch. It was a cheap shot.
Later that afternoon, I rushed home from a meeting to change and depart to San Diego. Then I noticed them. The note from JD. The bouquet of flowers. The book I’ve been saying I wanted to read. The Love Triumvirate. And then I felt so incredibly guilty for not being nicer, kinder, gentler…more like him, and less like me.
Feeling blessed with such a great husband, I happily drove to San Diego by myself for a totally awesome PUG meeting! How there are so many cool photographers in one city is beyond me, but I want to thank everyone for showing up! I felt so much love and support and I couldn’t be more proud to call all those people my peers. I especially need to thank Jeff and Erin Youngren for being such awesome hosts and putting together such a great event!! They’re the best!
Here are a few pictures the lovely Erin captured…

| I was SO surprised to see everyone show up...Jeff said 85+ people were in attendance! |

| Thank you, again, to everyone who showed up and for making me feel welcomed! |

Virra and Ton : Engagement
|

S he sat in the dentist’s chair with her cheeks four times their normal size. Looking quite like a chipmunk, Virra waited for the dentist to examine the after-effects of her wisdom teeth extraction. While Virra sat in the chair and wanted to go home, Ton—the most recent addition to the dental office and recent dental school graduate—ached to go home as well. It was Friday. The Chipmunk and the New Dentist wanted to be anywhere but there.
As one of his last patients of the day, Ton reviewed Virra’s charts. He was a newbie but just one look at Virra’s cheeks, he knew exactly what was going on. But Virra didn’t. Where was her usual dentist? Why wasn’t he reviewing the procedure? And WHO IS THIS CUTE DENTAL ASSISTANT?!
It wasn’t until later when Virra discovered Ton was the office’s newest addition. With help from another dentist, she invited him to dinner and—trusting she looked even better without gigantic cheeks—Ton agreed. They’ve been together ever since. It wasn’t, however, until Ton saw Virra asleep next to him when he realized that this woman changed his life. She was beautiful, just laying there. No makeup, but rosy skin. I saw her breathing and thought to myself that she’s the most breathtaking woman I’ve ever seen. I stared at her for two hours while she slept and realized I was completely in love.
I’m SO excited for Virra and Ton’s wedding this September. It’ll be held at the Montage Resort Laguna Beach and they have an amazing day lined up with some fabulous vendors and I’m excited to see them again soon! If their engagement shoot was any indication of their awesomeness, it’s going to be a great wedding! :)

| Virra and Ton's son, Jaden, made a brief cameo during their engagement session...and if I look HALF as good as Virra looks after just having a baby I'll be thanking my lucky stars! :) |

| I love this picture in a major way. A may-jah way. |

I t’s been a lifelong dream to see the United States. I’ve traveled the world to see far and famous places, but America—Land That I Love—still intrigues me. Sometimes I watch the Food Network and wonder what it’d be like to visit fast food dives and little hole-in-the-wall restaurants and discover more of this country’s roots. In addition to gaining an ever-expanding waistline, I’m sure I’d fall more in love with the place I call home.
Well, life works in the funniest of ways because I’m going to be seeing America while I join the Free to Succeed Tour. My good friend David Jay asked if I’d like to join him, the Showit crew, ADOBE, and Couture Book as they visit 30+ cities around the U.S. We’ll be starting the tour in Houston, Texas on July 29, 2008 and visiting a city near you soon! If you’d like more information, be sure to CLICK HERE to register for a seat at the seminar.
And here’s a picture I think looks WAY better than what others are used to seeing…
|

Here’s a sneak peek and what we’ll be discussing during the four-hour seminar…
|

I hope to make new friends and meet my blog readers face-to-face while on tour! For those of you who written to let me know you’re all dialed in, I can’t wait to get to know you better! Thank you for being so fabulous and making my days so bright!

| This is what my desk looked like early this morning. It's remnants of working on a new website. Because I'm a visual person, I need to SEE what needs to be done. Apparently, I think Post-Its are a God-send because I'd cease to exist without their bright colors and shapes. I know it looks like I'm crazy, but--really--there's a method to the madness. Honest. Hand to heaven. |
