Carlie and Gabriel : Wedding

I t layed there glimmering in the warm sun. Abe Lincoln’s copper face had never looked so good laying in the driveway of the reception venue. Gabriel’s uncle found the lonesome penny and immediately called everyone with the great news.
During the time when Gabriel and Carlie first met, his sister Courtney battled leukemia. She was only 19 years old. Carlie stepped into the family and became a pillar of support for Gabriel during this painful time and when Courtney finally made her way to Heaven, Carlie, Gabriel, and the rest of his family mourned collectively. Because of love, their pain became Carlie's pain. Throughout the struggle to survive and the chemotherapy process—and later the grieving process—a penny became emblemic of Courtney’s presence. The family had slowly come to view Courtney and a penny as one.
So, when Gabriel’s uncle found the penny on the driveway—even after it had been swept three times over—he immediately called everyone with the great news. Courtney was there with them for Gabriel and Carlie’s wedding day.
Carlie and her bridesmaids sat on the cool marble floor of an oversized bathroom and prepared for the big day. With music playing in the background, they laughed and reminisced about good times spent together. Once finished, before they made their way out the front door, Carlie clutched her bouquet and lightly touched the penny attached to the cream ribbon.
Along a beautiful lake in Orange County, friends and family—including Courtney—watched Gabriel and Carlie pledge their lives to each other. And the day couldn’t have been more perfect.
Gabriel and Carlie, you melt my heart. You care for others in such an evident way and attract others to you like bees on honey. Not only are you both beautiful…you’re beautifully wonderful, giving, and loving. Thank you for sharing your lives with JD and me and allowing us to document such an important day. Have fun in Kona and drink an extra cup of coffee for me! ;) Much Love…J*
JD hung out with the guys in Laguna Beach and caprtured this moment of Gabriel in the car ride to the hotel before the ceremony...I don't know what it is exactly, but I just love this picture.

| The amazing floral decor was compliments of Flowers, Etc.. Carlie took a lot of time thinking about her wedding details, so she special ordered dried peonies and combined them with cream roses and vintage hydrangea for an antique feel. |

| Carlie walked down the aisle in a bohemian chic kind of way...barefoot. :) For the reception, Gabriel bought her a pair of matching Vans. |

| Because Carlie and Gabriel are extra awesome, they opted to see each other for the ceremony and capture pictures before the guests arrived. Once we finished, they were kept tucked away in this cool Winnebago until the ceremony began...com'on...I couldn't resist! :) |

Lauren and Kyle : Wedding

Umm, DJ...music, please! Lauren motioned with her one free hand toward the computer sitting in the corner of the large room and one of her bridesmaids clicked on a playlist. Rascal Flatts' song "My Wish" played loudly through the speakers and Lauren's sister sighed as she ran the curling iron through her hair and said, This is YOUR song! As the finishing touches of Lauren's makeup were completed, she lightly sang along as her bridesmaids acted as backup. Apparently, they were as fixated for her dreams to stay big and her worries stay small as she was.
The ladies made their way to the church and gentlemen were waiting upstairs for the ceremony to begin. Kyle and his groomsmen quietly placed their jackets on straight, swapped cologne choices, and took last-minute peeks at themselves in a small wall mirror. The girls, however, were in the bridal room laughing hysterically, singing and dancing to their personal pop renditions, and cracking jokes at each other's expense. Lauren was calm and cool and she'll most likely attribute it to her bridesmaids...and the fact that she was marrying her high school sweetheart. They dated long-distance through college and once she finishes her nursing degree, they'll live in New York City together. Lauren summed everything up quite nicely when she said, The apartment is small, but Kyle and I are in love, so that really doesn't matter...as long as we're together, we'll be fine. Yes, their dreams will stay big and their worries will stay small as long as they keep that frame of mind.
Lauren and Kyle, thank you for being so wonderful...and thank you for your trust. You booked me before I had a website...without meeting me...and only reading my blog. I'm blown away by your faith in my ability to capture your wedding day and I want to thank you for welcoming me into your amazing network of family and friends. I'm truly honored. I know you're both destined for great things in the Big Apple and I can't wait to hear of your future successes. Much Love and Appreciation... J*
If you look closely, these Rainbow flip-flops are actually decked out in a little wedding bling...style and comfort! :) |

| After the ceremony in Downtown San Juan Capistrano, we meandered through the residential streets and had a little fun... |

I make no qualms about loving gifts. Some may attribute to my seeded roots of materialism to vanity, but, nay, I completely disagree. I like to think of it as something more along the lines of thoughtfulness and enjoying the process of unwrapping things…or, more pointedly, unwrapping girlish pleasures (can I get an amen for tiffany-blue boxes, gold Godiva ribbon, and deep brown Louis Vuitton bags?), and not frozen pizza or cleaning products.
Three cheers for unwrapping!
This afternoon I was pleasantly surprised when I received a package in the mail from my amazing client, Sandy. She’s a PR big-wig for Tweezerman and was thoughtful enough to send me a thank you gift for their recent engagement session. How fabulous is she?! I had seen them at Saks Fifth Avenue recently and wondered if they’d be able to work wonders on my brows…hopefully they will because I sometimes worry I may appear to have eyebrows reminiscent of knuckle-dragging men of yesteryear :)

T hese past few days have been spent working on completing projects and tying up loose ends before a crazy three-week doozy is upon me. In the midst of everything, I’m desperately trying to stay abreast of my email and respond to the many letters sitting lonely in my inbox. I’m usually quite good about responding, but once the Blu Domain news broke, I was inundated with notes of congratulations and support…and also A LOT of technical questions. I’m trying hard to respond, but I keep on coming up short.
In the mean time, if you’re a photographer and want to learn from many other fabulous people, definitely check out David Jay’s online photography forum, Open Source Photo. |

I can’t fully describe how this forum rocked my world when I first began…it taught me SO much and I’m totally shackled to DJ for hosting such an awesome community of givers. There’s a running joke amongst people on the forum who claim they received their photography degree from the University of OSP…that’s how much a person can learn! Definitely get plugged in and get involved…but be careful because that forum can easily become an addiction if you’re not careful! ;)
And I have to admit that if it wasn’t for the truly amazing rockstar photographers I met on the forum, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They were angels, gifts, confidants, mentors, pillars, and later became friends. I’m sure the same thing will happen for you when you join!
