Reading my Heart

S
hortly after getting home from our trip, I received some sad news. I sat and cried. I'm not so much a crier (although there's been evidence on this blog to prove the contrary), so I needed a moment to pull myself together. It was then when I saw Polo sit at my feet and rest his head against my legs.

He darted in from another room, almost as if he had this innate ability to feel me. And right about now I sound like a crazy old lady who collects lace doilies, but I'm not. Promise. I scooped him up and squeezed him tight. Then picked up one of my many doilies nearby and dried my tears.

I kid, I kid.

In the hurriedness of life, pain causes a person to stop and reflect. During this time, it's nice to have a friend who's willing to run from another room and make my day a little better.

Happy Monday!

tricia - I have to say, I love how much you love your dog :) It makes me feel less crazy for wanting to cry because I love my Odie soooo much. He has my heart :)  08.01.11 - 11:51am
Misty Dawn - My Border Collies read me ALL the time. They really are a part of my soul.  07.28.11 - 9:02am
Lydia - So cute! I hope you're feeling better, and have many, many more snuggle times with Polo!  07.27.11 - 8:41pm
Juli - Jasmine, you don't sound crazy! My cat comes to comfort me on the occasions that I cry as well. Sometimes, he's obviously NOT in the mood to be petted... but he still comes and climbs into my lap... willing to just "be" with me while I need him. Animals are awesome that way. :)  07.27.11 - 1:46pm
Denise Nicole - My heart goes out to you during your time in sadness. Polo can put anyone in a good mood! My dog won't even play ball with me, but he will sit upstairs with me FOR HOURS while I work away on my computer and allow me to sing to him when I am really feeling down. He even throws in a few howls to encourage me... or maybe he is telling me to stop?? May your heart be content now.  07.27.11 - 9:45am
cassandra-m - Ooohhhhhh....love any post with Polo! Mocha is going to be jealous....shhhhh! Ha ha! Hope all is well!  07.26.11 - 10:27pm
Digital Printing - "In the hurriedness of life, pain causes a person to stop and reflect"-very nice. Sometimes I also realized that we also need to feel that pain in order for us to pause a moment and think deeply.  07.26.11 - 8:44pm
Connie E - I so love this image! Our doggy of 12.5 years (A black lab Brady aka Fatty dog) had to be put to sleep. My kids (7 &5) are just beyond sad. They are so much part of our lives! Cherish all the time you have with your pup! Give him a sqeeze from my family!  07.26.11 - 2:49pm
bethany - My hattie (a black and tan cavalier king charles) did the same thing the other day when i was crying too! she just snuggles up tight to me. its the best feeling to know you are being cared about... Im sorry you had some sad news. That makes me sad.  07.26.11 - 6:55am
kat - rocknrollbride - sorry that you had some sad news :-( But yey for our pets that know to make us feel better...Henry does the same!  07.26.11 - 4:19am
Agi Magyar - Tears are good. If you let them burst out, you will feel much better. Just keep smiling Jas. Life is a ride, and no matter if you are up or down; it's still worth to go with every moment of it! Hugs  07.26.11 - 3:27am
Marie - I hope everything is ok :(   07.26.11 - 1:03am

Karen - I need a dog.  07.25.11 - 9:56pm
Danielle Honea - awwww I needed to read this...ironically my pups were the cause of my "stress" today, one of them ate someones hot dog at the park, and the other one jumped in someones van on their CHILD! But they still warm my heart, and make me feel important. Sorry for your sad news :( and you'd still be cool, even if you collected lace dollies lol  07.25.11 - 6:57pm
Tiffany Deming - Pets can be so reassuring and can read feelings better then words. As Reno Photographers we get to photograph families and their beloved pets all the time. So fun.  07.25.11 - 6:24pm
Mom - My precious Polo!!  07.25.11 - 6:13pm
Lea Hartman - When my husband deploys my dog, Winston always seems to pick up on when I'm missing David most and never fails to come lay at my feet or put his head in my lap. Amazing creatures, aren't they?  07.25.11 - 6:04pm
Jodie Cox - Awww! Dogs are amazing aren't they? I'm so glad he was able to cheer you up a bit. I remember when Danny on Greys Anatomy died.... I bawled like I've never bawled before (there must have been more underlying stuff going on a the time perhaps that just flicked a switch!?!) Anyway, Cheeko my dog takes one look at me, hops up on the couch and cuddles in for the rest of the night! Just wanted to make sure I was ok and had someone to cuddle I think! We're talking a 60kg dog here, so both of us lying on the couch isn't the easiest of things! ;)  07.25.11 - 5:46pm
Catherine - My eyes teared up while reading this because that's EXACTLY the way I feel about my Curly Sue!  07.25.11 - 5:43pm
Christy - My pup, Phoenix, used to do the same thing. She could sense my emotions from rooms away. It is by far one of the things I miss most about her now that she is gone. The worst was after she passed and I cried, then wished she was there to comfort me, then cried again because she wasn't! Ugh, a vicious cycle. Cherish every moment with your sweet friend!  07.25.11 - 5:26pm
Kare - I'm sorry for your sad news; I hope everything works out and there's a happy ending.  07.25.11 - 4:53pm
Carrie K - Isn't it incredible how dogs just GET it?! Glad you were able to smile amidst pain.   07.25.11 - 3:42pm
Raquel - Jasmine, you're dog has a cuter wardrobe than I do! LOL such a cute pic of you and your BFF :)  07.25.11 - 2:43pm
Venetia Norrington - OMG!! That's such a cute image of the both of you. I would love a furry companion to sit at my feet too. xx  07.25.11 - 1:51pm
Cristina Rossi - I am sorry about your sad news...I am glad Polo worked his magic to make things a little easier. Doggies are special friends with magic powers, I love how my girls console me when I am sad. HUGS to you xxx  07.25.11 - 1:43pm
Amber - Aww, I'm sorry for your sadness. My dog seems to know when I need a hug from her, too. It is amazing how these creatures love us so much <3  07.25.11 - 1:10pm
MindyK - Our Canine loved ones ALWAYS know when we feel grief and its amazing how they rush to share it with us and provide comfort...and they always do it so well. Thanks for sharing.  07.25.11 - 12:25pm
jeramy - one thing about all your "polo posts" is that you can always tell how very nicely groomed he is. which makes me feel like a really lousy bad dog owner. right? except that, we have 5 kids...so....maybe that makes us even?....perhaps. :-)  07.25.11 - 12:22pm
Jessica K. Sullivan - Oh Jasmine, I am sorry. You are in my thoughts and prayers:)  07.25.11 - 11:54am
sherry boles - I have done the same thing! My furry babies were there for me. There's just something special about that... Hope you feel better now.  07.25.11 - 11:34am
Kimberly Murray - Hugs from Atlanta! You don't sound like a crazy, old lady at all. Now, if you said that your 30 cats then same strolling in...  07.25.11 - 11:30am
Emily Ebeling - I am sorry that you have sadness in your life right now.... A little food for thought, which my aunt shared with me today: God is able to use every circumstance in our lives for our ultimate good. God's ultimate good for us is that we become more like Christ. His purpose is not to make us happy every day, but to make us holy for eternity. Prayers are up ;)  07.25.11 - 11:14am

ashley barnett - You are not a crazy old lady Jasmine! My little dog Riley will come running out of the next room, leap onto the bed, run up my chest and firmly plant all 7lbs of herself against my neck and then try to wipe my tears away with her tongue anytime I cry. They do know :) I hope whatever has caused you pain is fleeting. <3  07.25.11 - 10:04am
Vicky - Your words hit me between the eyes this morning. I was just told my mom passed last night. I am pet sitting so they are not mine, tuned into me, but they put up with me. Great outlet brushing down the horses this am.  07.25.11 - 10:04am

Georgina @RubyWeddings - It is amazing how much a cuddle from your pet can help! I have always had pet dogs and sadly can't have one in my current home but I always miss having a furry friend running towards me, when I put my key in the door, with so much excitement and love just because they missed me! I hope you feel better soon - ps. Polo is simply the cutest!!!  07.25.11 - 9:53am

steph! - Sending a smooch for him & a prayer for you!   07.25.11 - 9:32am
LeZandra - I just spent the morning cuddling with my dog Thor for a cry. I dreamt my husband never deployed and that our dog Kato never had to be euthanized. And I know my dog Thor felt it. He understood and licked the tears away :) After a hard day at work, it's always nice to come home and see something so happy just to see you.   07.25.11 - 9:31am
Elizabeth - I always say animals are your true best friend in this world. They don't want nothing more than a hug or a kiss. They are there for you in good and bad times and never question you. Suzy G - Awe, I pray the news was not to bad and that all involved are held in God's arms until they are carried through. My sweet friend is a 80lb basset hound named Maggie, she doesn't quit fit in my lap but she always makes me smile when life sends hard times. (((({{{{{BIG HUG}}}}))))).  07.25.11 - 9:17am
Meredith - Aww that's nice :] I hope everything gets better!!  07.25.11 - 9:14am

I hope she is happier in heaven and finds peace where she could not on Earth. I also hope Jasmine, that you are feeling brighter and hurray for your pooch x  07.25.11 - 9:13am
Gail - Oh Jasmine, I'm so sorry to hear you had to come home to face not only the craziness of catching up with life, but sad news as well. Prayers (and long distance hugs!) coming your way!   07.25.11 - 9:12am
Jennifer - Sad news is never comfortable. But it's crazy how our four-legged babies can pick up on things. I've been literally flying at low altitude the last few weeks, and will be a for a few weeks more, with barely room to breath. Yet, the other morning my rottweilers (2 of them) followed me around just looking at me and nothing else. All they wanted me to do is sit. I did and they came and put their big heads in my lap for a few minutes. It's just what I needed a chance to get some air.  07.25.11 - 9:12am
Damaris Mia - Hope all is well! Polo is so stinkin cute!  07.25.11 - 9:11am
LEOLAK - Sorry to hear of the sad news..hopefully things get better. Polo is adorable and what an adorable story too. Thanks for the Polo pic! He just cheered me up too. =)  07.25.11 - 9:10am
Shannon - Actually, animals (dogs in particularly) do have that ability to FEEL you. Almost like a sixth sense... Glad he was able to be a comfort to you in that time.  07.25.11 - 9:07am
En Route Photography - Oh I hope you're feeling better and the sad news wasn't something really bad. ;( Polo is the cutest and it must be amazing to share your life with such a little munchkin. I've been crying for a yorkie for a year now, but in reality I know that my lifestyle is not exactly ideal for a doggie now, too much travelling. Warm hugs! xxx Gabby http://enroute-blog.com/  07.25.11 - 9:02am
laura - hope you feel better soon : )  07.25.11 - 9:02am
Eileen - Dogs are the best. I can't even imagine a life without one in it.  07.25.11 - 9:00am
Emily Heizer, Photography with Flair - We all love Polo. And we are sure glad that Polo loves YOU! Right now I have my baby Charlie Brown Bagel the Beagle sitting (ok, snoring) beside me and I am so grateful to have him to hug and hold. My only complaint? When I cry he gets upset, cries himself, whimpers and tries to lick my tears and snot away. Can't I cry in peace sometimes dog? It's okay for Mommy to cry! (Just sayin'.) Charlie just made his second music video (first on my blog though.) It has lots of obnoxious barking. Polo should watch. :) (It's in the post entitled "I have issues" if you couldn't guess...)  07.25.11 - 8:57am
