I've made many claims as to why I love the 50mm lens, but it wasn't always the case. In fact, when I started my business, I relied so heavily on the 24-70mm, 2.8, you'd think it was attached to the palm of my hand. However, when I was given the Canon 50mm, 1.4 (a gift for second shooting two weddings with another photographer), I decided to give it a try. It was the first time the world wider than f/2.8 was available to me and it blew my mind. The depth and clarity such a little lens provided changed how I saw the world and what I could do with available light.

That was five years ago. Since that time, I've upgraded to the Canon 50mm, 1.2 and I'm smitten (to see what lenses I shoot with and why, CLICK HERE to read more). The 1.4 was then given to JD and he's been using it for the past three years…and he actually prefers it to the 1.2 for it's size and quick focus capabilities. Last week I was making a few purchases from Adorama and surprised him with a new Canon 50mm, 1.4 because it was time to retire his old one.
