It's been exactly two weeks since Episode One of RESTART and I'm thrilled seeing so many success stories mounting as a result of photographers changing their businesses. Just a few tweaks to email correspondence, creating a Conversation Map to engage with prospective clients during a consultation, and shooting for your branding words have catapulted many photographers. I couldn't be more excited for the direction our industry is heading!
In addition to Episode One homework, I'm also going to assign prep work for Episode Two on February 13, 2013. I'll be focusing on how to create a branded web presence, so this assignment will ensure you're well prepared to start making changes to your website and blog…but first you need to know what inspires you.
ASSIGNMENT : GO ON A PHOTO SAFARI
I, essentially, want you to take photos of things you like. Colors you're drawn to (take a photo of an awesome sunset, go to Home Depot and find a paint swatch you adore, take a photo of a stop sign if that's the red you're looking for on your new site, etc). Take a photo of your closet (this will help show, truly, what colors you lean to in every day attire and shows what you find appealing). Take pictures of billboards if you like the text or layout. If you're inspired by nautical elements, shoot a dock or details you find appealing on a boat.
Basically, get busy!! This will push your limits and really force you to make conscious decisions about what's going on in your pretty little brain. There will be no rules or requirements…yet. Just go out and find ways to see the world in a new perspective. Think new, think differently.
The key is to take the photos YOURSELF. I want this exercise to be two-fold: 1. to hone your photo skills; and 2. to force you to make conscious decisions about what you want to shoot. Feel free to pin them to a Pinterest board or post them in the group, but I caution you not to use someone else's images to define your style. You can do that later, but now it's all.about.you.
