Yogi Training

For my birthday, JD gifted me a six-week yogi training. I mentioned in passing that it seemed like a wonderful way to deepen my practice, and a few days later he registered me. It's one of the most thoughtful gifts he's given me and I don't think I'll ever be able to thank him for giving me a way to better myself. On and off the mat.

The yogi training started with a weekend retreat of full day training. I took copious notes, practiced with new focus, and learned how to appreciate where I am (and not focus on how far I want to go). In addition to my regular hot yoga classes, yogi training met every Thursday for three hours. I'm proud to say last night was our last class and I was excited for its completion.

Part of yogi training includes individual attention with your small group guide. I was beyond thrilled to be assigned to Amber's group (you might remember Amber from the yoga photo shoot) because life had a way of connecting us on a deeper level. Amber pushed me, encouraged me, and comforted me when I fell out of inversions (yes, the awkward moment when I fell on my face and hoped no one was watching).

Last week Amber and I met for a one-on-one yoga tutorial and JD stopped by the studio to snap a few photos. After class he said he was proud of the dedication to complete the course during what feels like the busiest time of the year. He also said I was happier when I practiced yoga, so it was an investment in his sanity as well! 😉

Like most things in life, practicing it about the process, not the outcome. Do I wish I was effortlessly hand-standing and bending into mind-boggling poses? Well, yes. And while I'm no where near that point, I feel stronger than I did six weeks ago and I'm thankful for progress, even if it feels slow. The desired outcome will reveal itself in the right time.

Namaste 😉
