Best Tips for Submitting to Wedding Blogs

Dear Jasmine,
I was hoping for a quick piece of advice. I know you've already posted about this but what would be your favorite tip you'd say to an aspiring photographer that really wants to be featured/published on a popular website?
Sincerely,
Really Wants

Dear Really Wants,
Yes, I did blog about how to submit photos to be featured on popular wedding blogs, but I think your question is great. I love the Cliff's Notes version of anything, so here's my advice…

Shoot clean imagery, document the details, and submit the story not just pretty photos

Wedding bloggers love photos of the bride+groom, but these photos should only comprise 15-20% of the submission. The details should make up the majority of submission (70%), but please note that details needn't be relegated to over-the-top decor (although that's lovely too). Effective detail documentation could be images all within a color scheme, environmental details (like landscapes or native trees), or synchronizing patterns. If you're willing to hustle and learn how to tell a story, the submission becomes much stronger. The remainder 10-15% of the submission should be comprised of candid moments and narratives unique to the wedding day.

This leads me to my last point: submit the story. There were roughly 2.4 million weddings in the United States last year. Many of these weddings were submitted for online publication, but what made submissions ultra competitive wasn't just stellar photos, it was walking the viewer through every aspect of the wedding day, allowing an editor to see the bride's aesthetic and the photographer's point of view.

I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing your images featured soon!
Tell the Story,
