They were two California athletes competing in collegiate sports at Princeton University. She was a typical La Jolla girl who swam like a dolphin and spent her summers on a surfboard along the Pacific coast. About a two-hour drive north of her sandy toes, Grant skated across an ice rink, one of the few in Los Angeles. His father took him to an Olympic ice hockey game on a whim when Grant was four years old and an unquenchable desire sparked within him.

Decades later, the swimmer and the hockey player met at a campus party. Lise sauntered up to the broad-chested guy with the charming smile and challenged him to a beer chug. Grant's eyes scanned the beautiful brunette staring up at him and he chugged with dapper swag. The rest of the night, they remained by each others' sides until it was time to leave.

Grant grabbed a marker and wrote his email address on her hand. The following morning–after a restless night of sleep–Lise woke to find copies of Grant's email address imprinted on various parts of her body. On her arm…on her neck…on her cheek. Through the course of the evening, the marker ink copied itself on her body. Grant found a way onto her hand…and shortly thereafter marked his name on her heart as well.

The engagement session started in La Jolla, along the same beach Lise surfed as a young girl. Lise introduced Grant to the passion she shares with her hometown a few years ago, so it holds a special place in their hearts.

The light was perfect for engagement photos…La Jolla is just north of San Diego, so the light is always soft and golden…what a dream…

I'm particularly excited for this wedding next month because: 1. Lise and Grant are all kinds of awesome; 2. The details are going to be beautiful; and 3. I'm honored to work with the ladies of Karson Butler Events…they are so talented and kind that I know we are destined for a perfect day!

After an outfit change, we walked down to the beach and their dog, Dexter, joined them. What a sweetheart…

For being such a good sport, Dexter convinced Lise and Grant to join him in the ocean, one of his favorite places…

I can't wait for their wedding next month in La Jolla and know the future is bright for such a loving and sweet couple!
