Small + Simple

They sat around me and said: start simple. These two small words really frustrated me, so I stood up, cracked my knuckles and rested my hands on my head, making my elbows splay out like wings. This is my I'm-Really-Frustrated posture.

I explained that working on a new project/pursuing a new dream/starting over meant I was ready for the challenge, but–no–starting small wasn't how I functioned. I like BIG, I like **flashy**, I like perfection.

What I soon realized was what I want isn't always what's best. There's something powerful about starting scrappy. Simplicity (which is just a fancy word for ain't having what you want) forces entrepreneurs to get creative with limited resources, work smarter, and hustle like their lives depend on it (because it does). I have to accept that I need to take the little I have (inexperience, limited resources, and lack of know-how) and find a way to make it succeed.

Do I believe that one day I can pursue new ventures in the big/flashy/perfect way I imagine in my mind? Yes, I do. But until that happens, I need to appreciate the valuable lessons Simplicity is teaching me and trust she has my best interest in mind.
