FAQ : Photoshop Tutorials

W
oohoo! It’s a gorgeous day here in Orange County and I’m loving life! I’m editing Saturday’s wedding (post coming tomorrow) and all I can think about is the most AMAZING Photoshop tutorials on the web. No, really, I know I type with CAPS LOCK all.the.time but, really, you’re going to be hard-pressed to find a better guide to understanding Photoshop in a fun and entertaining format.

I’m often asked a lot of Photoshop questions and while I’d love to answer every email, I simply cannot. Like I’ve mentioned before, I use The Boutwell’s Totally Rad Actions and Kevin Kubota’s Action Packs to process my images in Photoshop. They pretty much rock my world. However, in the past couple of weeks Doug Boutwell has put together the coolest tutorials to help TRA users. All out of the kindness of his surf-loving heart. Isn’t he great?!

I HIGHLY (there I go with those darn caps lock again!) encourage you to sit down, grab a Cup-O-Noodle, and cozy up with your computer because you’re gonna learn a ton! Here are a few links:

*Action Basics

*Installing Your Actions

Happy Monday!

kay english - Watching these videos changed my editing completely! I first saw this like 5 months ago though and didn't realize it was out for a year prior to that. I love these actions!  07.31.09 - 8:55am
RCJones - Wow, this is awesome. Who would've thought that a little humor and personality can make something as potentially lame as a tutorial, engaging and educational. Well done Doug! Jasmine, thanks for links.  02.27.08 - 8:03am
Nikki McLeod - oh wow thanks for this, this definately makes me understand TRA better!  02.27.08 - 1:27am
Jasmine* - @MsB: I use a mix of both sets of actions to create some of my own. I love Kubota's Magic Sharp, his b/w mixtures, and his X-processed actions. Hope this helps! :)  02.26.08 - 3:41pm
allyson magda - what a great resource thanks for sharing! Allyson  02.26.08 - 9:19am
cathy - thanks Jasmine! I've been using these for a few months and LOVE them! (anyone who is scared to fork over the money...DO IT. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!) I already knew how to work layers, but I definately learned some shortcuts. Thanks for letting us know the tutorial was there. :)  02.26.08 - 8:36am
Doug Boutwell - Thanks for mentioning the tutorials, Jasmine! I've been working my butt off on them, but they don't do any good unless all those Totally Rad People out there know about them :) Cya in Vegas!  02.26.08 - 7:54am

Simply Modern Weddings - I love his tutorials...especially the recent on on using Green w/ Envy! It helps me understand my actions much better. Plus he makes it easy to understand for non-photographers like me!!!  02.25.08 - 5:38pm

gabriel ryan - after a semester-long photoshop class [which was great in understanding foundations and what goes into making a good print], doug's 3 shorts rocked my world. i can't wait to try out some of the new stuff i lea
