I Believe in Love

There are moments throughout every week when I know I'm doing what I've been called to do with my life. Moments when I think the cerebral gods of job creation worked their magic when they paired me with wedding photography. It's as if the universe knew I could enjoy weekly renditions of YMCA, the hora, and Cellllllllebrate good times, COM'ON! without getting tired of it. Every first kiss is a sweet kiss, every bride the most beautiful I've ever seen, every wedding day momentous. I believe in weddings because I believe in love.

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure to watch my friend marry her soul mate. As she walked down the aisle with her father, I cried. I was so overcome with the beauty and power of the moment that I found myself caught off-guard. Like, Wait, don't I do this every weekend?! As the bride and groom recited their vows, JD reached over and grabbed my hand. By sheer osmosis, he felt my heart melt into a puddle of joy and I wanted to marry him all over again. Yes, I tell JD I want to get remarried just so we can get another cake-tasting appointment, but he suspects there's more to my love.

We toasted to two beautiful lives joining as one, we ate the most delicious food, and we danced the night away…no, really, JD and I were two of ten people who closed the ballroom down. When the DJ threatened the Last Dance, we crazies on the dance floor cajoled for more…and so it was. At the end of the night, we said our sweaty goodbyes and ventured back to our hotel room. There, we put on our flip-flops, put Polo on his leash, and walked to the beach. Just past midnight, we watched the moon kiss the ocean goodnight, as she disappeared behind a screen of clouds.

I believe in weddings because I believe in love. Just the same way I believe in soul mates, in fidelity, in eternity, in passion, in sacrifice, I believe in weddings because I believe in love. And I'm blessed to do something I believe in and I'm proud to use my camera to document these moments.

And, yes, it appears we hit another wedding photobooth with our mad skillz…it's nice to know we're not as cool as we hoped we were!
