Dancing Like No One is Watching

I t happened a couple nights ago, while having dinner with our clients (ahem, friends). We got on the subject of dancing and I said I just loooove to dance. Give me a bass line and I'm ALL OVER IT. But that's when JD said, Ummm, Jasmine loves it so much it's sort of embarrassing. He went on to recount a story from two weeks ago to prove his point.
The Story:
At the end of a long and wonderful wedding in Syracuse, New York, we said our goodbyes to Gina and Marcus. Before we could leave, however, they pulled me onto the dancefloor and planned for the DJ to play "California Dreamin'" just at the right moment. It was nothing short of fantastical. There, surrounded by the bride, groom, and the entire wedding party, we sang and danced. Well...I danced. JD just stood with a camera in his hand in complete bewilderment as I did my thang. |
Later, as JD recounted The Story over dinner, he laughed and said I was dancing like it was my own wedding. And, yes. Yes, I was dancing. Because that's what I do. I dance and live in the moment because my only other option would be to limply stand in the center of the circle like I was in the mushpot of the Duck, Duck, Goose game. No thank you.
JD calls it my cheerleader mode. My Ready, Okay!-I'm-gonna-burn-a-hole-in-this-dancefloor-and-not-care-what-you-think mode. I call it life. Because that's what life is about. Dancing like no one is watching. |
