Monday Musings

T
here are days when I have the most random thoughts. Like today, for instance. I work from home, alone in my office most the day, so my thoughts keep me company. I'll be the first to say I'm a wee bit peculiar, but I'm okay with that. Totally. Here's a snapshot into my brain this morning and all it's randomness...

When I talk to JD, I usually call him Chuck. Don't ask me why.
I clean the tops of condiments after I use them before I put the cap on. Even at restaurants.
I save my To Do lists. You know, just so I can look back and SEE HOW PRODUCTIVE I'VE BEEN.
I convince myself workout pants are acceptable public attire. But deep down I know they're not.
I save buttons. You know when you get an extra button when you buy a new jacket or shirt? Well, I've been saving them for years. I might even have a button that dates back to 1987. Seriously.
I only iron the front of JD's shirt if he's wearing a sweater. No one's gonna see the sleeves anyway!
When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up and be a news anchor like Connie Chung. Today, I'm happy being me.
I know how to push people's buttons. Quickly. I hate this about me.
I don't really weigh what my driver's license states I weigh. (Someone out there, please have my back on this!)
I talk to Polo like he's human. We get each other like that.
When faced with confrontation, I'll wait a few days before I respond for fear I'll say something I later regret.
The thought of being in a bathing suit makes me ill. Like, Someone-please-pass-the-Pepto ill.
I look like a gangsta in my passport picture. Seriously, I could throw up gang signs in that photo and you wouldn't be shocked.
JD bought me new boots for Christmas. And I love them.
I never drive in the slow lane on the freeway. Ever.
Some nights I can't fall asleep because I'm thinking of blog posts. Can you say, l.a.m.e?!
I think that if you eat off someone else's plate, the calories don't count.
I have a messy drawer. A drawer that's totally messy and I keep junk in, but that's okay...because it's my messy drawer.
If a person at the gym starts running on the treadmill next to mine, I won't get off until he does. I'm THAT competitive. Even though he had no clue I was running against him.
Sometimes I buy shoes and then tell JD, Oh, theeeese shoes? Had them for years!
I don't deserve the amazing people I have in my life. I know this. I embrace it. And, I love it.

Here's a random photo I took on a walk a few days ago while I walked Polo. The colors make me feel alive and I'm reminded of beauty's simplicity...

Carolyn Egerszegi - I laughed out loud at this list because I just spent time yesterday going through all of my "spare buttons" and taking them out of all the individual mini ziplock bags they came in so I could combine them into one bag. Nevermind the fact that I don't even recognize the buttons or the articles of clothing they came from... I still couldn't throw them away!  01.16.10 - 10:15pm
Amy Rae Photography - jasmine*, melissa, and I should all combine our button collection! i know one day a button will fall off and i will need that one button i saved...but i will have a hard time finding THE button in all the buttons i have. they are in the top of my dresser drawer stuffing in the front corner! ha!  01.04.10 - 9:28pm
Sare - Your license has your weight on it?? Thats bizzare, if ours in Australia did i don't think i'd be telling the truth on that one either! I also have a massive button collection from all my clothes, it has come in handy for so many things, not least the pretty jar that i had to upsize to fit them all in!  01.03.10 - 8:03pm
Lisa - Love the pic and I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who does these things. There are seriously like a dozen of them that I do, too. :P  01.01.10 - 10:04pm
melissa oholendt - You quirky thing you - love it. (Thinking we should combine our button collection - it would be EPIC.)  01.01.10 - 10:48am
Candi - Happy New Year! I'm right there on so many of these things, especially the I don't weigh what it states I weigh on my license!  12.31.09 - 1:29pm
esther - "Some nights I can't fall asleep because I'm thinking of blog posts" hahahahhahahah Jasmine, I thought I was the only person thinking about blogging all night long. thanks for being so honest!   12.30.09 - 8:15pm
Amy Martin - I Love it. You are too cool for school Jasmine :)  12.30.09 - 7:25pm
Jaymie Darden - I totally save all my buttons too! I never need them, but I save them just in case. My weight is wrong on my driver's license too... oh well :). I make to-do lists everyday but then I throw them away after I've made them because for some reason writing it down helps me remember. Thanks for all your random thoughts! :) Happy New Year!  12.30.09 - 2:00pm
Christen - I can definitely relate to some of these quirks... although not all of them! I like to think of the number on the license as my "goal"... not my actual... As far as the competition on the treadmill, I may not stay on as long as the person next to me... but I do notice when they speed up... =)   12.30.09 - 12:55pm
Dawn McCarthy - This image reminds me of a fine glass of wine...if I drank..which I don't so that is an odd thought but it was the first thing that popped into my mind. ;-) Happy travels J*!  12.30.09 - 12:12pm
Allison Walton - After reading this, I've determined that you are one of the coolest people I know, and that we could be best friends. Never mind the 15 states that are between us. We could hang out, wear workout pants all day and figure out something cool and creative to use with all the buttons we've been saving for years (I'm so glad someone else does that!).  12.30.09 - 10:04am
Lindsay Kay - Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. I'm the same way on the treadmill and on my drivers license and on the button thing. Love your blog, Miss Star! Thanks for being inspiring. Have fun down unda'  12.30.09 - 7:50am
lauren waye - Er, I am most grateful that we don't have our weight on our licenses down under!   12.30.09 - 1:13am
Sarah Castor - Oh my goodness! These are great! My weight on my driver's license is totally incorrect and I purposefully make to-do lists just so I can look back and see how productive I have been. I save the buttons on stuff too and I LOVE the comment about eating off other people's plates and the calories not counting! Makes me think of the movie "Made of Honor." And I am totally with you on the competitive treadmill races! I know the person has no idea that I'm pushing myself to the limit just so I can win! Haha!   12.29.09 - 7:12pm
Teri - Um...in my planner, I write down what I wear. Everyday. So that I know when the last time I wore it was, and I don't wear it again for the same people to see me in the same outfit.....totally random, right!?? And I thought everyone saved buttons? WHAT IF ONE FALLS OFF!?! :)~   12.29.09 - 6:32pm
Karen (Mikols) Bonar - I think of driver's license weight as a GOAL to be acheived, not a fact of life. ;)  12.29.09 - 3:12pm
Sarah - BAHAHAHA!! I love it! Especially the shoes one...I'll be using that one for sure :D  12.29.09 - 11:49am
leni - I have a great GIVEAWAY on my blog, so stop by if you'd like to win! leni.typepad.com   12.29.09 - 10:45am
Melissa Pearce - I laughed out loud. So funny. Especially because I can relate! When I talk to my hubby, Randy, I sometimes call him Sister. Don't ask me why. I don't clean the tops of condiments after I use them before I put the cap on at my parents house, and it drives my dad crazy-- at my house, I do!! Weird. Why don't I do it there, too? I save my To Do lists. You know, just so I can look back and SEE HOW PRODUCTIVE I'VE BEEN. I have a stack of four on my dresser from the last 3 weeks. I also save buttons. I've been saving them for years and have three little containers full of them. I never use them. What's worse is that I save the tags I cut off new garments also...because what if I need to return it before I wear it, or ??? Once I find them in random piles on the nightstand I do trash them, but it's not before a month or so passes. Kinda grosses me out to admit that. I also don't deserve the amazing people I have in my life.   12.29.09 - 10:28am
Lindsi - I love it...I've definitely pulled the "Oh these? I've had it for a while!" Except I do it with jewelry and cami's :P  12.29.09 - 9:28am
Tamara Kenyon - I love it! I think that workout pants are an acceptable form of clothing to wear in public. Come on! I too wanted to be a news anchor, though photography was always my passion. I also save buttons, and the other day it came in handy because I found a shirt that needed a button and I had a large selection. Oh and ps. I ALWAYS buy shoes and clothes and sneak them in the house. Works EVERY time.   12.29.09 - 8:42am
imthiaz houseman - okay, so i thought everyone saved the buttons...i do! love the fact that everyone does the same thing when it comes to weight on your license, i got judged once by the lady at the DMV and wanted to cry. thank you for this post because now i know there is at least one other person who sits up at night because they can't sleep because their mind is racing over the next blog post, Jasmine, you rock! :)  12.29.09 - 8:27am
Karen Ard - No kind of workout pants/sweats/anything with elastic on the waist? I thought for sure that was okay!!!!! Darn it, that's most of my wardrobe!  12.29.09 - 8:21am
Rachel Jacobus - I make my husband eat Cheezits out of a bowl. The sounds he makes when reaching and re-reaching for more chips drives me insane!  12.29.09 - 8:01am
Regina White - OMG Girl you seriously are the funniest, so down to earth like me kinda person. I have those kind of thoughts too. I think my mind goes and goes til no end. I lose sleep too because of it. I'm so down with you on the license thang too. I lied. What they gonna pull out a scale out on you at a traffic stop. HOLLA! Oh! and Chuck is super funny. Oh! Yeah the don't say anything either so you don't regret what you say is me. Ask my husband.   12.29.09 - 6:54am
Liz Kausteklis - I love this post :) I don't weight what me drivers license says either, and I'm the same way about running on the treadmill...I start speeding up and try to out run them...hahaha! Have a good day!  12.29.09 - 6:43am
Susan - Pffffff - WHO weighs what it says on their driver's license? Seriously. Don't give it another thought.  12.29.09 - 6:28am
Calli Passion Photography - I really like composition..... Good Job...   12.29.09 - 5:46am
Judi Hussain - Love the photo. I can also relate to not being able to sleep because of bloggy thoughts running through my brain . . . Thanks for ALL your posts!  12.29.09 - 5:33am
{15:51} photography - I save my to do lists too!!! Actually, come to think of it, I have saved all of my daytimers for the past five years!! You know, just in case I need proof that I actually did something!!  12.29.09 - 5:00am
Alexandra - hahahahaha. This whole post made me laugh :)   12.29.09 - 3:05am
Vicki James - What a crack up! I secretly race the person who is swimming in the lane next to me. I thought I just has 'issues'! LOL!  12.29.09 - 1:39am
Tanya Perez - The treadmill one made me crack up out loud that Cesar had to come in and see what I was laughing about. FOR REAL.   12.28.09 - 10:53pm
Vania - SimplyBloom Photography, LLC - Jasmine, you are so fabulous, ordinary and definitely extraordinary all at once :D   12.28.09 - 10:12pm
Hilarye - I got your back on the drivers license thing! The weight on my drivers license is totally the weight I was when I was 18. I could only *wish* to be that small again! :)  12.28.09 - 9:53pm
Leyla - You are hilarious! Thank you for sharing the randomness... and believe me, you are NOT alone in any of this ;)  12.28.09 - 9:47pm

Tracey Emmett - Oh I am laughing so hard!! I save the extra button just in case, I have a messy drawer, and I totally race against people on like ALL the treadmills around me!! P.S. I am stealing the one about the shoes, BRILLIANT!!!! Happy New Year!  12.28.09 - 9:31pm

Lydia - I think my thoughts are too scary to share with the world! LOVE that picture!  12.28.09 - 6:38pm
amy t schubert - re: drivers license weight. When I moved to CA and got my new license I lied and shaved 10lbs off my weight on the form. Then I lost 40lbs so my license currently has me listed +30lbs. I'm OK with it :)  12.28.09 - 6:27pm

Cathy Crawley - I totally wish there was a guy next to me on the treadmill (I have one at home). I might not get off so quickly!   12.28.09 - 4:13pm
Trude - I save buttons too! Especially because we have this amazing collection of several Mason jars full from my grandmother. I think she cut them off when clothes were discarded. So awesome. :) And I talk to my dog Dante like he's human too. He totally gets it all. People who think they don't get manipulated by dogs. ;)  12.28.09 - 3:19pm
Maria Theoharis - You are too cute :) It's surprising how similar we all are in so many ways... I do quite a few of those things..hehe  12.28.09 - 2:46pm

Meg - Totally with you on most of this, surprise surprise. My favorite... "Oh this little Anthro sweater? New?? No no, I've had it for awhile just haven't worn it yet, is all...."  12.28.09 - 12:22pm
Kodi - I can't even count how many things you said in this post that are exactly the same as me. Three big ones: I totally wanted to be a news anchor too, and now am completely happy where I am(though the free gym membership would be nice); I talk to my dogs like they're humans; and I lie in bed with blog ideas flying around in my head and can't fall asleep until I jot them down. For this very purpose I have a notepad next to my bed. Your musings make me happy.  12.28.09 - 12:16pm
Rachel Perry - I finally threw away my old calendars. I really did NOT need to know what my schedule was in fifth grade, right? I mean, maybe I should have kept them?!? Heehee. I like your list. It's funny.  12.28.09 - 12:07pm
michelle - I totally got ur back on this one... the weight listed on my driver's license is more of a GOAL than an actuality. oops. And I get the whole dog-speak thing. My own dog understands me... I swear. ; )  12.28.09 - 12:05pm
My Socail Relevance - I hear you on the condiments containers. I wish more people would do that.  12.28.09 - 12:04pm
tracy - your comment about having shoes and telling 'Chuck' that you've had them for years. I do the same thing. I throw the item in my closet and when I bring it out, I say, 'oh, I've had this. It's been in my closet!' hee hee, and what woman in her right mind actually tells the truth about her weight in her driver's license? it's like the scale says one weight, but we have our own scale in our head that says much better numbers.'  12.28.09 - 12:04pm
Kaysha - Okay... NO ONE weights what their drivers licenses says! Or at least thats what I tell myself... lol! Love this post, makes me smile!   12.28.09 - 12:01pm
Alison - You made me laugh- I am so glad to know I am not the only one with never ending random thoughts. Keeps my boss on edge because he never knows what is coming next when I say "I had a thought this morning..." and I am very proud and happy to say I only have 5 more pounds to go to be back to what is on my drivers liceense! I am so excited to have to LOWER it next time I renew- I might just lose it to replace it! lol   12.28.09 - 11:59am
Marcus Murphy - Gina always eats off my plate...and well, everyone's plate for that matter, ha. She always argues that it doesn't matter because we are married! She is probably the only person that can get away with it, but I HATE IT ha! Love you jazzy! So good, like always!  12.28.09 - 11:59am
Kodi - I can't count the number of things you said that are exactly the same as me. Three big ones that stick out: totally wanted to be a news anchor, totally happy not being one now(except, the whole free gym membership thing would be desirable.); I carry on conversations like my dogs are humans; and I lie in bed thinking of blog ideas and have to jot them down before I can sleep.  12.28.09 - 11:51am

Jonathan M - Some of your musings sound just like my wife. Especially the shoes statement, but she also incorporates clothes into it. And we have a junk drawer, not a messy drawer. Same thing, just easier and more fun to say.  12.28.09 - 11:50am
heather corporan - I'm a button collector too lol. My daughter wants to make sock puppets out of them, and I'm all NOOOOOOO. Someone might lose that button off their shirt one day, then what ? LOL   12.28.09 - 11:20am
Tiffany - I definitely have your back on the driver's license thing... oh, and I pull the shoe trick with my hubby too... just sometimes with things other than shoes (sweaters, shirts, new jeans...) :)  12.28.09 - 11:20am

Amy - I totally do the shoe thing with my husband too!!! Mmmwwaaahaahaaahahaha!!!!  12.28.09 - 10:59am
Carissa - This is the first time I've ever commented on one of your posts, even though I stalk your blog like its my job. I just wanted to thank you for sharing about the comment about running on the treadmill. It's nice to know I'm not the only rehdiculously competitive weirdo who races people without their knowledge, or consent for that matter. Thanks for brightening my day. You basically just rock. Hands down. That's all :)   12.28.09 - 10:57am

Bobbie Brown - I love this!! Very interesting and funny... and the picture is gorgeous!   12.28.09 - 10:54am
Kia Gregory - Ha. Your musings are funny. The same line you pull with JD about shoes is a similar one I pull with my mister and hoodies. I've had this hoodie since last year. Remember? Hee hee.  12.28.09 - 10:54am
andrea gaudreau - i think EVERYONE has a "messy" drawer - i call mine the junk drawer. everyone i know has one.  12.28.09 - 10:46am

amanda - Oh my word, that one about the calories. YES..finally someone else agrees with me on this.   12.28.09 - 10:40am
Rachel - Hey Jasmine, Just thought I would tell you that I really like reading your blog. I really see God in the photos you take and in the words you write. Thanks for sharing your talents!  12.28.09 - 10:39am
joan.solitario - you. crack. me. up!! happy new year jasmine!  12.28.09 - 10:36am
Nicole Glenn - Ok, well I'm glad that there is some one as peculiar as me. I find familiarity in too many of these. I am even guilty of adding stuff to my to-do-list that I ALREADY completed. Is that cheating? No? Pheeeew, thanks!  12.28.09 - 10:34am
Tira J - I think all the time. I think if I could invent a device that would connect right to my brain and write all those thoughts down, I would be a gazillionaire! Seriously! I think a lot when I am on the treadmill, hence the reason I am going there right now because I DON'T weigh what my drivers license says and I better get a head start on those resolutions! Ha! Happy Monday J*  12.28.09 - 10:16am
Stephanie w/ VMP - The drivers license weight... oh yeah... I am with you there. I don't think I have weighed that since college, for real. :)  12.28.09 - 10:05am
Wendy - Thanks for the random monday post. I'm feeling random today, too. Also can't wait to get home to use my new Canon 20D. Thanks for the recommendation! :o)  12.28.09 - 10:00am
Emily Hayes - Jasmine, you have totally inspired me to be a better blogger and to show people who I am. I have been affraid and have tried to act professional, but not anymore. 2010 is going to be a great year. I can feel it!  12.28.09 - 9:59am
Molly Williams - I'm like 20 pounds over my drivers license weight! I filled it out when I first got my license at 16 and I haven't changed it since! How embarrassing to have to tell the dmv man that I no longer have the body of a teenager.   12.28.09 - 9:57am
