Photoshop Actions + Post Processing

H appy Monday and I hope life is sweet...as sweet as a warm s'more. Mmmmm, sugar. Is it too early in the morning to be craving such terrible goodies? No, didn't think so either. It's Monday and last I heard calories don't count at the beginning of the week. Speaking of this week, I'm working on a new Shooting Star which will be posted in a couple days where I address photographing preparation details. As the lead photographer, I'm with the bride as she prepares...and JD is with the groom. Our approaches are entirely different, but I'll get into the details later. For now, I just wanted to post a few of his pictures to give a few samples of his work as they'll be used as examples at a later point.
All of these photos were outsourced to Photographer's Edit and processed with Adobe Lightroom. I've edited them with Kubota Photoshop Actions and used BlogStomp for sharpening and the application of the photo border.
JD takes a fully photojournalistic approach to preparation photos. Jeff and his groomsmen arrived in the morning and decided to play croquet...sorta...

This was posted for a few reasons, but the main one was to express how thankful I am to have such a solid partner. In business...and life. JD's contributions to the wedding portfolio are immeasurable and I hope these Photoshop tips also helped a bit. New Kubota Photoshop Actions
|

A few nights ago--after releasing Meg's wedding gallery online--I received an email from her. She, apparently, was viewing her gallery when she came across a few photos JD captured. And she began to cry. You see, unbeknownst to Meg, Tim surprised her with a diamond wedding band. He placed it on her finger during the ceremony, but she didn't respond. Initially. Because she didn't see it. While I was setting up the group formal, JD was standing off to the side. He captured the moment when Tim pointed out the new ring...and Meg's reaction.
It's moments like these I completely adore. And I'm so thankful to have JD on my team. Here's a few of JD's candid shots processed with my new Kubota Photoshop Actions. I've finally had the chance to sit down and choose my favorites...I love them! You can find these new actions in the Viva La Vintage action set.

Photoshop Actions + Post Processing
|

M y brain is caught somewhere in between a state of mashed potatoes and cream of wheat. And, yes, I always compare my current state to food. My brain feels like mashed potatoes today. My legs felt like jello yesterday. How I felt while trying on bathing suits last week? Like a watermelon. Oh, yeah, my brain thinks in the Food Pyramid and if I can just lean it more toward the leafy green category, my doctor would be so proud.
Speaking of food, I received an email last week from a photographer who offered to send me a batch of cookies if I was able to help her with a few post-processing tips. But remember that whole watermelon debacle last week? Ummm, yeah. I definitely don't need cookies. So I decided to post a Before and After Photoshop blog post to share...it's been six months since I posted my last one, so today is as good a day as ever.
These photos will be processed with a mix of Totally Rad Actions and Kubota Photoshop Actions...like I mentioned in previous post-processing posts (like here and here), I use Photoshop sparingly, so here's a peek into what goes down...the first photos are Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) with their settings, and the second photo is the photoshop actions applied...
One thing to note...all borders and sharpening is done with BlogStomp...

Kubota Photoshop Actions : Tips + Tricks
|

T oday I'm running around my house with one sock on. A toothbrush perched on my lower lip. Aaaaand I'm bumping a little Jay Z to get me motivated for what is shaping up to be a crah-a-zee day. But before life gets too crazy to blog, I decided to put together a post on a subject I'm most commonly emailed about: Photoshop and post-processing. I'm definitely the last person you want to ask about Photoshop (because, really, I know very little about such an awesome tool), but I do know I get a ton of help from Photoshop Actions. Like I've mentioned before in the past, I don't heavily use Photoshop to manipulate my images, but it definitely refines my style.
People often ask if I could post photos straight out of camera (sooc), and while I was quite reluctant, I'm throwing caution to the Santa Ana winds and posting side-by-side comparisons. If this post helps one person, then I'm stoked. I use these types of posts to help manage my time via email, as I cannot possibly answer every email personally. Please forgive me.
Without further ado, here are three sets of photos from my three most recent shoots...

N o joke. I've been speaking, dreaming, and texting in six word stories for the past couple days. Waiting by elevator. Please come. Cold. It's gotten to such a point that JD and I have been challenging each other to come up with ways to outdo each other and I've even infected my friends with the Six Word Challenge. Over brunch this afternoon, we spent time talking in six word sentences and I'm sure the tables next to us thought we were foreign exchange students trying to sound cool. The butter? Please pass. Good. Right?
To say that I'm pleasantly overwhelmed would be understatement. Oh, Internet, I cannot believe how amazing you are?! I've spent a large part of my day dedicated to combing through the hundred of entries and I've laughed, cried and loved this world in new ways. Thank you. The decision was uber difficult and I realized I couldn't choose the winner...at least not without enlisting help from trusted friends. It seemed like a handful of entries consistently earned high marks, so we kept on shortening the list until a favorite made it to the top.
The winner of my Six Word Story Challenge is: Gone to pick fruit. Love, Eve. - Maggie Hendrix of Maggie Hendrix Photography.
She'll be receiving a Kubota Photoshop Action Pro Pak and I wish her all the best! Be sure to leave a note of congratulations on her blog! :)
I'd be remiss if I didn't also note a few top entries who were all amazing in their own right:
She cooks alone, eats for two - Amy Starks of Starks Photography
I'm an expert at making lemonade - Don
Jasmine, Jasmine, you make me smile :-) - Kevin Kubota of Kubota Photoshop Actions
Hair gone, still have my breasts! - Tiffany
Anxious to meet you. Love, dad - Margaret Alvarez
