Shooting Star : How to Photograph Wedding Rings

I make no joke about my love for all things Facebook. It's creepy actually. Mark Zuckerberg should be scared of me because if I saw his Audi, I might leave a thank you note tucked in the windshield. Why, yes, I know he drives an Audi. Like I said, creeeeepy.
In all seriousness, the reason I like Facebook is because it allows me to connect with photographers and makes the photo industry--which sometimes feels polarizing and isolating--a bit smaller. A place where we say y'all and smile at strangers. When people write on my wall, I try to personally respond or others step in and help along the way. Shooting Star : How to Get Likes on Facebook
|
S ometimes my patience wears so thin it's translucent. It's almost as if I expect people who are close to me to read my mind and when they don't, I want to chew on coconut rinds. I heard coconut was good for your teeth, but I think it'd be better used as a way to express how frustrated one might be. Gnawing on brown, hairy fruit might give juuuust the right impression of all my toughness. Or my healthy gums.
Note to self: Don't write blog posts after someone hasn't read your mind. In other news, I received a question from a reader (Hi, Ashley!) who asked how to get more Likes and interaction on Facebook. I'll be the first to say I'm not an expert on the matter, but I'd be honored to give my opinion. Facebook has been a game-changer for my wedding photography and I'd be happy to share how I approach it. Shooting Star : Engagement Shoot Tips

T here was a point not too long ago when I came to the realization that I'd lost control of what I wanted. Heck, who am I kidding? I wasn't even control to begin with. It got to a point where I almost dreaded shooting an engagement session because I didn't know what to expect. Once, during my first year of business, a client showed up an hour and a half late to an engagement session. Hold on...lemme pause for dramatic effect...AN HOUR AND A HALF!!!
But I soon realized it wasn't my clients' fault...it was mine. How could I expect clients to know just how important arriving on time was if I didn't explain to them in advance? How were they supposed to know the intricacies of shooting with natural light? How could they know what I needed if I didn't tell them in advance? Through the years, I've grown to lovelovelove engagement sessions and part of why I enjoy them is because I work with the clients in advance to ensure we're on the same page. Shooting Star : Running a Business with a Partner
|
L ast night I got home from a shoot and I was tired and overly sensitive...traffic did that to me. See what I did there? I shifted culpability from myself to some nebulous thing like traffic so I could act out and cry over a sleeping bag I bought close to three months ago. Yeah, I cried. Over a sleeping bag. And then I blamed myself for adding too much lime to my Vietnamese soup at dinner and I ruined everything. Speaking of purses, did I ever apologize for exchanging that handbag you gave me in college?!
Can you hand me a tissue? I really have no idea how I'm able to do life with someone whose patience never ends...and perpetually walks around with a box of tissues. I couldn't ask for a better partner and though JD would like to exchange me like a handbag at least one a week, I'm thankful to have him by my side. This installment of Shooting Star focuses on building a business with a partner and the differing dynamics that come into play. Shooting Star : Photo Discounts + Booking Policy

I 'm a creature of habit. In fact, I secretly think I'm part bear because I eat like I'm storing food for winter and hibernation always seems like a good option. In light of keeping things constant, JD and I recorded another installment of Shooting Star because it's been a few weeks and YouTube was sending me forlorn letters asking if we were in a girl fight. Then we hugged it out and I answered a few questions.
