Julia and Brandon : Day After

he first time I met Julia, it was over the internet. Her email was filled with our similarities, but the strongest two were UCLA Law School (she was a couple years ahead of me) and love of photography. She practices law and just listening to her speak, I'm impressed with her fluidity in legalese, a language spoken by members of the World of Law.

When I hosted my second Starbox Lunch, Julia drove from San Diego and it was lovely getting to know each other better. Since then, Julia and her husband Brandon have started their own photography business and I'm so happy to see how far they've come. I was even happier when they contacted me to photograph a Day After session. They've been married for three years, but Julia wanted a different feel for her wedding photos, so I was honored when she asked my to document their love.

We spent a lovely afternoon together and here are a few of my favorites...

My favorite shot of the day...

One thing I love about Julia is her amazing laugh!

Because every girl deserves a little Dior...

O
kay. Okay, okay, okay. I know there are many people who are over Polo's cameos on my blog, but there has to be a little grace proffered. Besides being my best buddy in the world, he also happens to be adorable, sweet, and cuddly. And, dang, he sure can give one heck of a back rub. If JD wasn't such a good kisser, we'd likely have to see a marriage therapist for this little love triangle I've created.

As I mentioned in yesterday's blog post, Ann Hamilton invited Polo to San Francisco for a photo shoot in preparation of her WPPI Presentation. We had a blast and Polo worked it so ferociously Tyra Banks would be proud. And in case anyone is wondering, he TOTALLY smiled with his eyes.

Here are a few pictures from the shoot, but you can see more on her blog!

Many thanks to the blog readers and Facebook friends who invited me to dinner or proffered restaurant suggestions...oh, Internet, you rock my bright world! Unfortunately, I was only in San Francisco for a few hours, but the next time I'm in the Bay Area, I'd love to host a Starbox Lunch and meet new friends! :)

P
eople often underestimate the time a wedding photographer spends alone. The only moments I have human interaction in an average day is when I go to the gym and I’m ashamed to admit I see my fellow workout-a-holics more than I see my own family. I spend my day firmly planted behind my computer and while I absolutely LOVE what I do, I also miss the touch, sights, and sounds of a regular job. This is probably why I call JD 372 times a day.

Wha’cha doin’!?!
Oh, you know…this little thing called WORK…
Pffft! Okay, so I totally forgot to tell you that The Hills is starting again soon

And I also forgot to tell you that I need a pedicure
Uh huuuuh
And for lunch, I grilled soy chicken and veggies…and it was delish!

This is very much how a mid-day conversation with me will sound. Totally.Enthralling.

So you could just imagine how torturous life is when JD is away! He’s in Austin, Texas, but yesterday ten amazing people filled his shoes. Because, really, JD’s shoes are really hard to fill! ;)

Yesterday, I hosted my Third Ever Starbox Lunch! Woohoo! If you’d like to read about the last two, you can Click Here for a review. I love arranging these lunches because it’s a great way to meet new photographers and create an opportunity for people to network and build friendships. I LOVE IT! Every time I think the lunches can’t get any better, they do! Yesterday was a total blast…at least I had a good time…I hope everyone else felt the same way! ;)

We met at Buca Di Beppo in Irvine and, because of the size of our group, were seated at the notorious Pope Table. I somehow managed to sit at the center of the table with a picture of the Pope giving his blessing right above my head…I must’ve looked totally vain sitting in that chair, but I SWEAR it was an accident. Everyone must’ve thought was completely vain and conceited…either that or totally holy! Thank you to my new friends for not holding my chair choice against me...and providing the touch, sights, and sounds that I sometimes miss.

If anyone has snapshots from lunch, feel free to send them my way and I'll add them here...well, on the condition that I don't look completely heinous talking with my mouth full or something like that! ;)

I don't have another lunch planned soon, but as soon as I get one going, I'll be sure to blog about it and accept requests...please note, I cannot respond to Starbox emails until then. Thanks in advance for understanding! :)

EDITED TO ADD: Here's a couple pictures Serena caught of me dying of embarrassment as I sat in the Pope Chair

oday I spent the afternoon with a group of amazing photographers. We ate, we laughed, and we learned from each other. Not too long ago, I hosted the first ever Starbox Lunch and had such a great time. Shortly thereafter, I received a few lunch invitations, so I decided to host another lunch! It was fabulous!

I love these lunches because I learn so much from other people…and I hope it wasn’t a one-way street! ;) The groups are intentionally left small because there’s nothing like having an intimate opportunity to dine and talk with peers. Our lives often carouse at the speed of light, so taking the time to just sit and relax is so appropriate.

To my new friends, thank you for making me feel special. I can’t wait to see where your growing careers will take you…hopefully we can all look back one day soon and say, Remember when… and know we’ve gone quite far with our hopes and dreams. Much love and appreciation…J*

Happy Thursday~

**EDIT** If you're interested in going to a Starbox Lunch, just shoot me an email jasmine at jasminestarphotography dot com and I'll keeo your info on file for future reference! Thanks! :)

**EDIT 2** Thanks for everyone's interest, but the next lunch is now full...I think a little too full! ;) Please contact me again in February if you're still interested!

W
e sat the dark room oddly lit with Christmas lights tucked away in the corner and spotlights on random pictures of Italian paraphernalia—Meatballs, soccer players running along the Spanish Steps, and the Pope. As the plates and plates of steaming food were placed in front of us, we talked, laughed, and swapped stories like we were veterans. Only, we’ve never been on the frontlines…just in front of brides and grooms.

A few weeks ago, I hosted Happy Hour on Blu Domain. Not only did I have a blast, it was awesome meeting other photographers and answer a few questions. In the midst of the crazy typing frenzy, I encouraged photographers to ask another photographer out to lunch if they had questions or just wanted to get to know that person better (I got this idea from [b]ecker…who’s pretty much an industry forefather of giving back). Well, shortly thereafter, I received quite a few emails from photographers inviting me to lunch…so cool! Because I wanted to keep the lunch small, I invited a few photographers (some of which had contacted me about going to lunch before Blu’s Happy Hour), to join me at Buca Di Beppo in Irvine this afternoon. We had a GREAT time together and I’m so stoked to have made new peers within the industry! I’m honored to be associated with such a stellar group of people, and I’m happy to call them friends!

...And apparently only THREE of the seven of us know how to make silly faces!!! :D

I want to send a special thanks to David for bringing EVERYONE a box of Godiva chocolates and awesome Suzy's Zoo star sticky notes...he's so wonderful! I had an awesome time and I also want to apologize if I spoke too much or too quickly...I'm working on it! :) Thanks again and I can't wait to see what your futures hold for you!!!
